A decent week just gone after the disappointment of the narrow defeat in the Trainers Championship meeting the previous week. It was always going to be hard to bounce back from that and Tuesday night at Sheffield was looking for a time like we were having a real hangover after defeats for Rubys Rascal, Calco Flyer (ran very well) & Ela Ela Genie in supporting Sky races. The Three Steps To Victory final never really brought us any joy as Saffrons Tina was squeezed as the they came out the boxes forcing her to check and she never really got involved after which was a shame as quite a few members from the Markwallisgreyhounds Racing Club had made the long journey North, still it was an excellent effort just to make the Category 1 final and over at Harlow in the Tigerloanscompany.com Gold Cup Rubys Razzle ran superbly to beat ante post favourite Roswell Romanov in a fastest of the night 37.15. Romanov lost nothing in defeat and the draw for tomorrow night's semi finals hasn't worked out too bad. Garryglass Champ also ran well when second to Essex Vase winner Bubbly Torpedo.
Along with some winners at Romford Friday and two nice winners at Henlow on Sunday we are definitely on the up again and we have had 98 open race winners in 98 days. I will go on record and say if we can hit the 100 mark it would be the quickest 100 open race winners any kennel has ever achieved, it certainly beats our best by 2-3 weeks. Another busy week open racing where as well as the semi finals at Harlow we go back up to Sheffield for the heats of the Category 1 Bresmed Northern Sprint. Ela Ela Genie needs to bounce back to form while Cotton Pants and Brynoffa Jasmin are less exposed and could go well. Shlowdown Sally is stepping up in class but sadly after winning for the first time for us on Friday the fast Scolari Sound had to be withdrawn when spraining his hock in his victory.
With the first Derby at Towcester fast approaching it was nice to see Bruisers Bullet (formerly Kingdom Legend) continue to show enormous promise and took a maiden 500m on Saturday in a decent 29.23. He's still not the finished article and is still only a May pup but at this stage he looks our best prospect and odds of around 50/1 are plenty short enough but who knows they might look huge in a couple of months' time. One problem that Towcester has thrown up is the huge amount of graded dogs they have available meaning certain rails seeds in certain grades are waiting up to three weeks to get a run. This frustrates trainers as much as it does the owners and the only answer is either to lose a few trainers (not my preference) or get an extra meeting. With the Derby looming this situation will only get worse unless some solution can be found.
As said last week we are enjoying the 10th anniversary of our website. I love going back through the archives as well as all the new stuff and quite often it can guide me with trends of certain months that we do well in and maybe some that are not so good, this info I can use to try and improve things or perhaps approach them differently. Our new page with our partnership with Energize Kennels
is a real step into a new era where we can sell pups direct from the breeder and ones from some of the great race bitches that have graced our kennel, contact myself or Gary if anyone is interested in buying any pups.
The highlight of Tuesday at Sheffield was the victory of Aayamza Breeze who looked like Scurlogue Champ going down the back straight for the last time when winning comfortably by nearly 5 lengths in a smart 42.89. Saffrons Tina got no run in the Three Steps To Victory final when last and Calco Flyer ran well when runner up to Candlelight Fire over 480m. Over at Harlow all three of our runners in the Tigerloanscompany.com Gold Cup heats qualified safely with Rubys Razzle
impressive to score in a fastest 37.17.
At Romford on Friday Scolari Sound got us off to a good start when winning the Sprint in 13.62 though he came off slightly lame which was a shame. Ribble Aon took her heat of the Friday 500 Stayers in 35.82 while Airforce Duchess also qualified for the final when second in her heat. Adageo Gold ran well when second in a Maiden Stayers and Chubbys Oak scored a well deserved success in a 400m standard in 24.11.
On Sunday at Henlow Calco Swift used a perfect trap 1 draw to take a 550m Maiden in a good 33.58 while our dual Category 1 winner Clondoty Alex scored again in a 460m Standard in 27.46.
On Tuesday Sovereign King and Meelin Princess both ran well when second and Sosaidhs Blue took an S2 in 39.86.
On Saturday morning's card two wide margin winners in Farran Kilcoyne who took an A5 in 28.67 and Meelin Princess who bolted in over the new 686m graded trip in 42.09.
On Saturday night Ilewin Brickwall took an A4 in a good 28.31 while Famias Hope scored very well in an A3 in a great 28.22. Swift Dante made it four on the bounce winning an S1 in 39.78.

WEBSITE RECOMMENDED BETS
We look to have a strong hand in the Tigerloanscompany Gold Cup and our ante post selection Garryglass Champ qualified safely at Harlow last week. For a bet this week look no further than backing the unexposed Cotton Pants to win the Bresmed Northern Sprint at what I would have thought would be fancy odds.
COTTON PANTS - 2 pts ew ante post - Bresmed Northern Sprint - Sheffield - starts Tuesday
GARRYGLASS CHAMP - 2 pts ew ante post 20/1 - Tigerloanscompany.com Gold Cup - Harlow - semi finals Tuesday
