I hope everyone enjoyed reading our full and in depth Website Review of 2016 now up on our Guest Column, that was a painstaking and time consuming job I can tell you!! but well worth the effort.
I'm just going to be brief on this week's Newsletter as I'm so busy at the moment I've only just found a spare few minutes to write something. Sunday night I was a guest on RPGTV and it was fantastic looking back on our record breaking year, if we could have half as good a year as 2016 we certainly would take now! Judging by our first open racers at Romford on Friday who knows we might even better it! Six winners from 13 runners and the way some of them won was an impressive start to the year.
In the semi final of the Coronation Cup Roswell Romanov (35.05) destroyed some decent rivals en route to a 7 length success in the fastest of the 3 semi finals. On the supporting card Clondoty Alex became our first open race winner of 2017 when he had a great battle with the trap 6 runner before winning by the minimum margin in 13.64. Mashmad Eyebrows put right a couple of recent reversals scorching to a 3.58 sectional and going on to win easily in 23.94. Calco Flyer rolled back the years in beating some younger and very good rivals in a lovely 23.88, Rubys Rascal showed his class to come from behind to win a 575m race in 35.70 and to cap a magnificent night Stellas Veekayee took a maiden marathon in great style in a good 47.40.
We have been in good form at Towcester as well. On New Years Day we had three winners with the prolific Tread Lightly (28.94), Giveabitback Sue (15.51) and Tiffield Lad in a smart 28.70. On Tuesday two nice wins for the experienced pair Ribble Rush (28.37) and Ballymac Sinbad (28.32). At the weekend on Saturday morning another two good winners with Lagile Vic (28.42) and Micky Thebutcher (28.58) and just for good measure at night Tread Lightly scored again in 28.67 and Airforce Karla retuned to win a D3 in 15.86.
A big week ahead with the Coral Coronation Cup the first big event of the year and live on Sky. Roswell Romanov will be looking to avenge the defeat by Bubbly Torpedo in the Essex Vase last month and a few runners on the supporting card. On Thursday Monmore has a fantastic card with races all worth £1,000 for the Lawrence Jones Memorial. We have seven runners and the feature race has to be the 684m where Rubys Rascal faces a stern test. We will be back to Romford on Friday where Ilewin Brickwall runs in the Maiden Stayers final. On Sunday we make a rare visit to Mildenhall for the Greyhoundscene Forum races. I have sponsored the John Pearman Memorial Stakes over 870m and Ribble Atom returns from her visit to Ireland and will be one of six or seven runners for the kennel.
Well again a very happy New Year to all our readers and supporters.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK
WEBSITE RECOMMENDED BETS
Of course we only do this for a bit of fun and we would never want anybody to bet more than they can afford but once again overall for 2016 our recommended tips made an 18.5 profit on the year, Ferryforth Fran advised at 40/1 for the St Leger certainly helped on this!
Looking at the Sky card Wednesday I think our best bet might be to take a chance with Blastoff Bonnie in the stamina sapping 925m, she was quite impressive when last seen at Romford and over 750m where she wasn't stopping after the line. On Thursday Monmore has a brilliant card and our best bet could be the classy Rubys Rascal but what a race it is, he should be value.
BLASTOFF BONNIE - 2 pts win - Romford - Wednesday
RUBYS RASCAL - 3 pts win - Monmore Thursday
