I won’t lie, if ever I needed a holiday it was last week. A distressing few weeks where we hit a major injury crisis and after a busy first six months of the year (though on the whole very successful) a week with the family in Cape Verdi followed by a couple of days in Ireland were a perfect tonic to recharge the batteries.
We have kept a bit quiet over the last month on the open race scene and last week we just took in the William Hill Festival at Sunderland. Overall it wasn’t the best of nights with no winners in the heats of the Classic and Grand Prix but we have two runners left in the competitions who qualified for Wednesday night's semi finals. Our Derby finalist Bombers Bullet goes in the Grand Prix over 640m and probably currently our most in form dog in the kennel All Slick Now
in the Classic over 450m. Now would be a good time to bounce back with a couple of decent winners.
Certainly we still have been productive at Towcester with winners aplenty and we hope that some of that talent shines through at a higher level over the coming months. Silva Hill has looked a dog on a mission in his last two races and after a torrid start getting knocked over on debut he could be a rising star. Our litter of Evanta Evita pups (Energize Bobadee, Energize Bobadoo, Roswell Martian, Towstar Evita, Nothing But Love, and to qualify shortly Tiffield Boy) haven’t set the world alight yet but will improve out of sight soon. Tiffield Lady, Acting School, No Can Boogie, Calco Cool, Culchieland, Koroleva Queen to name but a few are young ones who have all won recently and look to have bright futures over a longer distance. On the open race side we hope to have recent intakes Good Lad, Glory Snake, Adageo Joma, Brigadier Bullet amongst a select few looking forward to winning opens etc while the old guard of Roswell Romanov, Garryglass Champ and Aayamza Breeze can continue to take on the very best. I still have high hopes for the likes of Ninja Fortune, Ninja Penny, Brinkleys Rosie, Ashakarin, Saleen Ash, Newinn Trump and Towstar Arry that they can step up to competing at the very highest level.
I will catch up on the other news in the sport over the next few days once I’ve settled back into work and our first table in the 5 To Follow competition that closed last week will be up for early next week at the latest.
The only open race action of the week two Saturdays ago was at Towcester where we had two winners over 500m with Ninja Pemny (29.50) and an impressive Ninja Fortune (29.13) while last week our only runners were at Sunderland with All Slick Now and Bombers Bullet qualifying for the semis of the Classic and Grand Prix.
From two weekends ago we had two winners from five runners with Calco Cool
(28.62) scoring at the second time of asking in an eye catching run from well behind while Airforce Cluxton taking advantage of some mucking about up front to win in 15.92.
On the Saturday morning just Saffrons Tina won an S2 in 40.38 while in the evening as well as a couple of open race winners Silva Hill took a very good A2 in fabulous fashion in 28.52.
On the Sunday evening we had wins for Koroleva Queen in 28.95 while Swift Windmill bounced back to form scoring in a decent A5 in 28.66.
This weekend on Friday we had no winners but on the Saturday morning card Muxton Belle (29.25) and Ballyfinn Jade (29.15) both ran well to win while Garryglass Bambi completed a good day's work winning well in a fine 41.93. In the evening we also had a nice double with Union Pride (41.63) and Brinkleys Rosie in a fine 28.13.
On the Sunday Acting School won very well in a good 28.73, Saleen Story ended a long drought winning well in 28.42 and Shlowdown Sally bounced back to form to take a good sprint in 15.39.
