14th January 2022
I hope everyone enjoyed reading my complete Review of 2021 with all our kennel awards and also the excellent video review that Emily produced to go with it. Both took considerable hours to do so we are a touch late with my regular weekly blog, something I’m proud to have done for nearly 16 years now! we will endeavour to keep our website as up to date as possible as we strive towards trying to achieve another successful year.
I will be brief this week as our open race action steps up a gear with the Essex Vase starting tonight. It’s probably the fewest runners we have had in the event for many years with just four entries though we certainly don’t lack quality. Hunt Cup & Ballyregan Bob Memorial runner up Aayamza Dream may find the trip on the sharp side but she flew round in a prep trial last week in a fine 35.21, equally pleasing was Antigua Princess (formerly Ballymac Trend) who went round in a decent 35.40. The enigmatic Aayamza Lexie won in the first round last year in sub 35.00 and is more than capable of landing this competition but she’s definitely a thinker! lastly Sweet Pear has been in good form at Romford in recent months and she could make the final at least.
We made a reasonable start in the 4 round Blue Riband at Towcester excellently sponsored by Premarket Pets. Drumcrow Brent has an awesome record at Towcester and he took his heat well with Bryce Canyon running a stormer time chase him home while Ivy Hill Skyhigh ran his best race for a while to also qualify. Brent and Skyhill are pitched in together in this Sunday’s second round but there’s no reason why both can’t progress.
We have a big team at Monmore on Saturday as their regular Saturday night opens resume, this includes a couple of interesting newcomers Druids On Song and Right Fork as well as some established stars like Bombardier It will also be interesting to see Antigua Getaway step up to 6 bends. It's could to see that Arc/Entain have increased prize money for open racing with £300 to the winner (£60 also ran), hopefully this is a trend that can continue.
Of course we are having some big changes at the kennel with the opening of ‘Suffolk Downs’ with the impending closure of Henlow pretty soon. Most of our Henlow runners will switch to our local track which is just 15 minutes down the road from our kennels while we will be retiring a few of our grand servants from Henlow and a few will be going open racing. The first batch of trials at Suffolk Downs went well on Wednesday which was most pleasing and by the end of the month we should have around 30 runners available for when racing begins at the start of next month.
No winners at Romford on Friday though Early Knight, Antigua Socks and Sweet Pear all running well when second.
At Towcester Drumcrow Brent took his heat of the Blue Riband in 29.69.
Last Monday at Henlow we saw wins for Formel Jet (27.98) in an A3 and Swift Quad completed a hat trick when winning an A4 in 28.19.
At Towcester on Tuesday Nearlylagertime beat kennel mate Bryce Canyon in a fine 29.59 in an A3.
On Saturday at Henlow we had 3 nice winners from 6 runners with Energize Omaha winning an A7 in 28.53, youngster Swift Quote did well to win an A4 in 28.25 while Lotties Wish took an A3 in 28.24.
On Sunday Breakfast Club scored a 1-2 for the kennel in a top grade beating the promising Tiffield Trajan by just over 2 lengths in 27.83.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK
OPEN RACING - DRUMCROW BRENT
WHATS ON NEXT WEEK
Essex Vase time at Romford tonight with 4 quality runners.
At Monmore tomorrow we have a big team looking to kick start their year while on Sunday the Premarket Pets Blue Riband continues with the quarter finals.
WEBSITE RECOMMENDED BETS
Last year in recommended selections for competitions we made a nice 38 pt profit (5pts being our max stake) though we were slightly down on our single race advices by 21 pts but still we had a 17 pt profit overall for the year! In all the years since we have done our fun and I reiterate that fun! recommendations I can only recall one year where if you followed our selections you would have lost overall, in fact we have had some years which would make professional tipsters look silly! As I say again it’s just part of our website to make it more interesting and as always only gamble what you can afford to lose!
We never got a chance to put up a bet in the Premarket Pets Blue Riband but our main hope Drumcrow Brent is still available at 16/1 and that must be taken while I have to say 100/1 quotes for Ivy Hill Skyhigh are insulting and a nibble at that is recommended.
In the Essex Vase starting tonight if I was to pick one of ours to back antepost then it would have to be Antigua Princess who is certainly unexposed over this 6 bend trip, 25/1 seems good value.
