The coughing bug that has struck our kennel over the last couple of weeks has been nothing short of a nightmare. Nearly 40 of our youngsters have been affected and there's not much we can do bar give them some strong antibiotics and try to stop the infection spreading. The older dogs seem to have a stronger immune system and seem ok but I'm sure the whole kennel is running slightly below par except in a couple of instances as we still have had the odd nice winner or two..
Patchys Kerry, our Golden Jacket heroine, begins her quest for another big race title tomorrow night at Sheffield when she runs in the heats of the Three Steps To Victory. She has a tough draw in trap 4 in the 480m and faces kennelmate Droopys Achieve, Ribble Aon our other entry should go well.
Deanridge Angel got our week off to a good start taking the Category 3 Towcester Racecourse Standard final on Tuesday in good fashion by over 2 lengths in a fine 28.13 calc. Ferryforth Fran scored his fourth win on the bounce over 655m in 39.78 and Madabout Marco took a maiden 480m in 28.52.
The decision to do significant work on the track at Swindon on Monday was a somewhat strange one two days before a major competition was reaching the semi final stage. It without question gave the middle to wide runners a slight advantage though I would hate to use this as an excuse for our three railers all being eliminated but really it just doesn't seem right.
We bounced back on Thursday with Ribble Atom taking a Sky marathon at Monmore in great fashion and on Friday at Romford Evanta Fantasy showed real class to win the 'Borna Karma' Memorial Race at Romford. Sosaidhshs Blue bounced back from a recent Romford defeat over 750m to score easily in 47.36
Our luck was out in the semi finals of the Gold Cup at Henlow on Sunday when Swift Whirlwind couldn't escape from his draw in trap four draw and went out the event though there was a great performance from Saffrons Anna who in her 3rd season lowered the track record for the 428m with a scintillating 25.50 run. Black Francis another 3rd season dog took his rivals apart to score easily over 692m in 42.50.
Rufford Atom was our only graded runner on Tuesday and scored by over 5 lengths in 28.78 calc.
On Saturday Airforce Cluxton and Vangaal were both second from our seven runners.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK
WHAT'S ON NEXT WEEK
Plenty of opens at Towcester tomorrow night and the heats of the Three Steps To Victory kick off at SheffiekLd.
We should have a few runners on the Sky card at Swindon on Wednesday and we are back to Romford on Friday and Henlow on Sunday.
WEBSITE RECOMMENDED BETS
Our last remaining bet Calco Flyer in the Calne Racing Arc at Swindon went out on Wednesday. This week the Three Steps To Victory kicks off at Sheffield tomorrow and Patchys Kerry can add more silverware to the cabinet, whether she will be a realistic price or not is irrelevant because I fancy her to beat anything put in front of her, maximum material.
PATCHYS KERRY - 5 pts win ante post - Three Steps To Victory - Sheffield - Tuesday
ADVISED LAST WEEK
CALCO FLYER - 1 pt e.w ante post 33/1 - Calne Racing Arc - Swindon - Wednesday - lost
