Another excellent week for the kennel where we were amongst the winners again and most importantly we have got two through to Wednesday's Calne Racing Arc Final at Swindon which is live on Sky Sports. Evanta Evita showed her class in a tough semi final where a smash break saw her comfortably in front at the first bend and galloping on strongly scored by over 3 lengths in 28.60 the fastest time of all three semi's. In the last semi Domino Storm couldn't quite get the run of the race and missed out when 3rd but Calco Flyer ran a stormer. After breaking well Millwards Whitey got up inside him at the first bend and hassled him all the way down the back straight before kicking on to win the race in 29.00 with Calco Flyer coming back to reduce the gap to a length and make the final delighting all his many syndicate owners.
The all railer final has seen Calco Flyer draw trap 2 which is fine and he is certainly capable of producing a big run when it matters though it would seem Evanta Evita has come out with the worse of the draw with trap 6 but I'm quietly confident if she breaks well this will not inconvenience her and if she does lead it will take a good one to catch her. We last won the Arc in 2009 with Corrig Vieri and it would be fantastic to land it again!
Both Evanta Evita and Calco Flyer will join what is likely to be a huge team from Imperial Kennels heading to Plough Lane for the William Hill Greyhound Derby and some of our other winners from last week are also possible runners. Evanta Fantasy and Adageo Bob won well again at Romford and though both are the wrong side of the 480m trip both are class acts. Blonde Nipper who didn't seem suited to Swindon bounced back to land a good open at Towcester on Saturday while the much talked about Blue Moment won very well last night at Henlow and remains on track.
On Saturday at Towcester as well as the heats of the PCS Legal Puppy Oaks starting in which we will be well represented it should be a great night as we look forward to the first leg of the Premier League. Twelve of the leading trainers in the country will supply four runners in a sprint, 2 x standards and a stayer with points scored going forward to the next leg in June. Altogether 7 legs at the start of each month at Towcester will finish up with a Grand Finals night in December. With good prize money for both owners and trainers it should be an exciting addition to our calendar. I'm sure it will take a while to get established but credit to Chris Page and his team at Towcester for trying to do something different as the industry is far too reliant on wall to wall Bags coverage for which the stakeholders see nowhere near the benefits they should do.
I, like thousands of other sports fans, saluted the legendary jockey AP McCoy as he bid farewell to an incredible career on Saturday, a true champion in every aspect and the horse racing game won't seem the same without him. We ourselves bid farewell to Pete Vernon who leaves Imperial Kennels this week after 14 years of seeing our kennel at the very top of our sport and while comparisons to AP are probably only in height (sorry Pete) he will, like the famous horseman, be sadly missed as much I'm sure on behalf of all our owners and everyone who knows him wish him all the best for the future, thanks Pete!
A good night at Swindon on Wednesday as Evanta Evita took the first semi final of the Calne Racing Arc in good style and Calco Flyer also made the final when runner up in the third semi final. In a trial before racing Billys Bullet glided round in a fabulous 28.43 beating the useful Swift Whirlwind by 7 lengths.
No joy at Hove on Thursday from our four runners with Evanta El Greco and Aayamzamodel both a touch unlucky. A better night Friday at Romford though it didn't start well as Cloudbursting took a nasty tumble in a sprint but thankfully all seems ok with our star sprinter. A couple of defeats were put aside as Black Francis continued his excellent 2015 form when taking the Tony Williams Dual Distance Final over 750m. He had to battle to get to the lead at the third bend and then held off the strong Rearguard Bond by a length in 47.41. Evanta Fantasy won a bitches 400m race well in a fine 23.88 while the evergreen Adageo Bon made a mockery of his poor draw in trap 3 to produce a stunning 7 length victory in 34.71 just 1/2 length off his track record.
Blonde Nipper took the only open on Saturday night at Towcester when leading all the way to record a good 28.23.
On Sunday at Henlow unfortunately Aero Babooshka was another who was knocked over in the Henlow Super Sprint Final but also seems ok. It spoiled a good night for the kennel courtesy of a treble with Ilewin Allot, Airforce Venus and the impressive Blue Moment.
A couple of nice winners on Friday and a lucky one as well from our 10 runners with April Mirth taking advantage of a fight up front to win in 29.77. Benkaat Dolly took a top grade stayers in good style in 40.53. The most impressive winner on the night was undoubtedly Swift Turbo who took off in an A4 to beat kennel mate Persian Black in a fine 28.67 on a slow track.
Not such a good night on Saturday bar Blonde Nipper's win in the open with Toosey Fern best when second and Garryglass Pixie eye catching in 3rd.
On Sunday Nimrod Son followed up last week's win with another upped in grade in 28.93, Swift Balotelli was best of our others when 2nd.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK
WHAT'S ON NEXT WEEK
Wednesday should be a cracking night at Swindon with the final of the Calne Racing Arc live on Sky Sports. Before Calco Flyer and Evanta Evita strut their stuff a cracking supporting card sees a strong presence from us with the likes of Billys Bullet, Domino Storm and Swift Whirlwind amongst others.
We will be at Romford on Friday and on Saturday a great night is in store at Towcester with the opening of the new Premier League and the start of the PCS Legal Puppy Oaks where Parkers Poison should go well.
WEBSITE RECOMMENDED BETS
Our followers are enjoying a good run of late and Black Francis swelled the pot with a fine win at Romford on Friday. This Wednesday we could again be taking the loot off the bookies if Evanta Evita can go smash in the Arc final with the 16/1 ante post voucher looking very juicy at the moment.
Looking at a bet this week if there's any ante post odds on the PCS Legal Oaks at Towcester on Saturday then I would fancy Parkers Poison to show her class.
