Our last runner of a monumental 2016 was Saturday morning at Towcester and Swift Lisetta duly won nicely in an 8 dog race and looks a young bitch to follow in 2017. The fact I'm even saying Towcester on a Saturday morning in an 8 dog race tells you how much our sport can change in a year! with the brilliant news that Towcester has been confirmed as the Derby venue for 2017 that is again something we all wouldn't have thought possible a couple of years back. Ladbrokes and Coral merging and an ugly war of media rights between promoters, tracks, SIS and Bags wasn't something expected either and bookmakers giving money to the industry through live streaming of Bags races was never expected but welcome all the same. Me winning the staff 5 To Follow competition is an outrageous unexpectation but it has happened so I wonder what 2017 might bring?
Some things haven't changed for quite a while now and Imperial Kennels landing a record 8th Trainer of the Year title was one of those thankfully. The powerful and talented Roswell Romanov being our last open race winner of the year on Friday at Romford in the heats of the Coral Coronation Cup in a fastest of the event 35.14 which capped off a memorable year in which in a couple of days time you can read all about as I'm just finishing of our Website Review of 2016 which promises to be a great read.
In all we got four runners through to next Friday's semi finals of the Coronation Cup with Rubys Razzle also landing her heat in 35.50, Ribble Aon and Roswell Roxanne both qualifying in 3rd place in their respective heats.
At Towcester on Tuesday we picked off two winners with Lagile Vic (28.61) in an A5 and Calco Swift (29.05) in an A6 and on Saturday morning the same as Cappoquin Jack (28.69) won an A5 easily by 5 lengths and youngster Swift Lisetta (29.17) won an A8.
That just leaves me to say a very Happy New Year to all our readers, owners and Staff and here's hoping for more of the same in 2017!
