blonde_bobby-fd.jpgReel Shirty did his best and was a pleasing 4th place in the Coral Sussex Cup final on Thursday but had no answers to the impressive Barrie Draper trained Ballymac Mossjoe. Shirty is certainly a dog that has improved out of sight here at Imperial kennels and should win plenty of opens over the coming months. Despite having no winners on the Sky card it was excellent racing and the crowd was very good which again proves people will turn out when the racing is high class. We did, however, have another good week with plenty of winners to savour. Black Francis a prolific winner for most of the year came back to form to land a minor dual distance event at Romford on Friday and Adageo Bob's annihilation by over 12 lengths of a very good field over 575m was simply breathtaking. We regained the overall lead in the Premier League at Towcester on Saturday winning 3 out of the 4 races and it was pleasing to see another good crowd enjoying a fine summer's evening.

Towcester will be the centre of attraction over the next three weeks as their big summer competitions get underway. I'm really looking forward to the double Category 1 events with the TV Trophy and the Lowther Stakes both starting this Saturday. We now will probably only have one entry in the TV Trophy heats restricted to the best 18 marathon runners in the country (including 1 from Ireland) with track record holder Ribble Atom. She was only 4th in the trial Stake on Saturday but a stumble out the traps meant she had to battle her way around to get a run, she wasn't beaten too far in the end and I'm still confident Lord Hesketh's young bitch can go well over the 906m. The Lowther Stakes with superb prize money (10k to the winner) over 480m for bitches only starts with six heats as well. We are blessed with some talented ladies headed by the 480m track record holder Domino Storm. I breathed a sigh of relief when she came off ok from a tough draw in trap 5 on Saturday in the Premier League top division won well by former kennel star Blackstone Marco and against her own sex will be the most likely favourite for the event. Evanta Evita warmed up nicely with a 28.34 trial yesterday and not having raced since Derby final night she has been laid out for this. In form Evanta Fantasy also trialled well (28.45) when having her first look at the track and her early pace will be well suited to this venue, a quarter finalist in the Derby proves she gets the 480m as well. A flying 28.09 trial yesterday from new intake Deanridge Angel adds another contender to our strength while Aero Babooshka is another top class bitch for us and has decent winning form over track and trip. Patchys Kerry was out of luck from a poor draw on Thursday at Hove but she is as fast as any on her day. Airforce Duchess for the in form Aayamzaboys syndicate has done nothing wrong in her two races to date winning an A4 and an A2 yesterday in good style. Parkers Poison is just back from season and this may come a bit soon but she is a talented bitch. Saffrons Anna has great early and can't be underestimated while we will also enter Airforce Venus, Ribble Aon and Ribble Rush who are all good graded bitches. Overall that's an embarrassment of riches so we will be very hopeful of our chances of landing the event.

I must admit to have not looked at the Trainer of the Year Championship standings for quite a while but I see after Thursday we had reached 576 points, that's a massive 239 points ahead of our nearest rival Kevin Hutton and with 5 months of the year to go it looks a decent lead. I think everyone would agree if Billy's Bullet hadn't have got injured our points total would be much higher but that's greyhound racing. My target was always to get to 1000 points and top the 300 winner mark and we are well on course for that. Amazingly our 176 open race winners (up to 31/07/15) have come at a strike rate of an incredible 31% and I do believe to a level stake you would be in profit if all runners had been backed which is vary rare given the amount of open race runners we have. We are lacking a couple of major titles and again that's something I would like to put right over the remaining months of the year.

I'm already building a squad of young greyhounds for later in the year and next year and many people will see over the coming weeks some new names both at Towcester and open racing. We have three pups of Ian Greaves still on the site for sale, these are expected to lead our team of young stars and are well worth a second glance if anyone was thinking of buying a decent pup. Ian is having a fabulous year with dogs that he has bred with the likes of Swift Hoffman and Viking Jack taking all before them amongst many other stars and we are grateful for him to have supplied such classy ones as Domino Storm, Evanta Fantasy and many more, call me on 07721778297 if you are interested in buying any pups.

OPEN RACING

A good card at Hove on Thursday and Reel Shirty was a good 4th in the Coral Sussex Cup final. Calco Flyer was a close up 4th in a 515m race while Patchys Kerry got no run whatsoever in the 515m Ladies final when 5th. Aero Babooshka ran another solid race when 2nd to the in form Westmead Lola again over 515m.

At Romford on Friday Penny Seabiscuit was an unlucky 2nd in a 400m Maiden. Sosaidhs Blue also had a troubled run over 750m when 4th but her time will come soon. The night did turn out successful as Black Francis landed the Dual Distance final over 750m in style winning comfortably in 47.42. The legend that is Adageo Bob destroyed a decent field over 575m by an incredible 12 1/4 lengths in 34.96 on a slowish track. He really is one of the all time greats at Romford.

ilewin_alot_fd.jpg

The Premier League at Towcester saw Ilewin Allot beat the in form Vanayamzaman in 15.54. Ballymac Sinbad was very impressive after early crowding to win by 4 3/4 lengths in 28.19. Aayazamodel notched up a four timer winning the stayers race in 39.60. Domino Storm was only 3rd but a bad draw and an inspired run from winner Blackstone Marco stopped us from landing all four races. Ribble Atom was 4th in the TV Trophy trial stakes but still ran well.

TOWCESTER REVIEW

cisberry_geo_fd.JPG

On Friday Ribble Aon scored an overdue win in an A4 in 28.56 and Come On Pilgrim scored his 3rd win from 11 races when powering home to score in 28.96. Cisberry Geo is running out of his skin and produced another good effort to win his 4th race from 12 starts, showing great all round pace he clocked a fine 28.41.

As well as the opens and Premier League on Saturday we had a few graded races. Libertine Louis and Ilewin Sleepy found all the trouble when 3rd and 4th respectively in a good A5. Energize Master was 2nd in a sprint, Parkers Star was 2nd over 655m and it won't be long before she will be winning. Saffrons Anna showed great early to lead in a good A3 but was caught and passed on the run in with Libertine Dandy a strong running 4th. Parkers Poison missed her break in a top grade sprint but this was her first run out of season.

On Sunday we had three dogs in an A2 and it was Airforce Duchess who completed a double when catching and passing kennel mate Vanbasten on the run in to score nicely in 28.30. Our three runners in a good S1 were all chasing Harrys Gamble and it was Garrylass Pixie who ran a good race to rail inside at the last bend and score well in a good 39.47.

PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK

OPEN - ADAGEO BOB
GRADED - CISBERRY GEO

WHAT'S ON NEXT WEEK

We will have a few runners at Hove on Thursday and Romford on Friday. Saturday is a big night for Towcester with the heats of the TV Trophy and Lowther Stakes where we will have a strong entry. We will also be at Yarmouth for the East Anglian Challenge with Clondoty Alex.

WEBSITE RECOMMENDED BETS

Reel Shirty ran well in the Sussex Cup Final but couldn't get to the leaders when only 4th. Two big competitions and picking a selection in the TV Trophy is easy with Ribble Atom but the Lowther Stakes for 480m bitches is not so easy. We have plenty to choose from but I'm going to stick with the proven class of Domino Storm and Evanta Evita who both on their day are class acts.

RIBBLE ATOM - 2 pts e.w ante post - T.V Trophy - Towcester - starts Saturday

DOMINO STORM - 2.5 pts e.w ante post - Lowther Stakes - Towcester - starts Saturday

EVANTA EVITA - 2 pts e.w ante post - Lowther Stakes - Towcester - starts Saturday

ADVISED LAST WEEK

REEL SHIRTY - 2 pts e.w  8/1 - Coral Sussex a Cup Final - Hove - Thursday - lost
