4th January 2016
(Opens to a third party website)
The new season began on January 1st with runners at Towcester on another well attended matinee meeting and we had our first open race runners of 2016 at Romford in the evening where the start of the Coronation Cup was the feature of the night. Experto Crede became our first winner of the year when beating kennelmate Tellhimjohn a short head in an A6 while Swift Whirlwind not only won our last race of 2015 at Henlow but was our first open race winner of 2016 when taking his heat of the Coronation Cup.
Our full website Review of 2015 is a day or two late but will be up for Tuesday night and it will make an interesting read I'm sure. It's been a hectic period for us over the holidays but everything should be back to normal very soon. This week's blog will be brief but I will have plenty to say again next Sunday.
Our trip to Romford proved successful despite just the one winner from our seven runners. In the heats of the Coronation Cup Ribble Aon was very unlucky not to qualify, breaking well she looked like going round in front but moving middle from trap 1 she got clipped from behind and was catapulted backwards, she tried hard to get back in the race but eventually finished fourth. Swift Whirlwind made no mistake in his heat, again trapping well he was always at the head of his field but Aayamzamodel ran on really well to close him down near the line to within 3/4 lengths in 35.87 (-50). Patchys Kerry and Blonde Razor would have both needed the runs and when they were led up by Savana Razzle I thought they would struggle but both kept on gamely on a slow track and Patchys Kerry was beaten 2 lengths in 36.02 (-50) with Blonde Razor another 2 1/4 lengths behind in third.
In other races Saffrons Anna showed some nice middle pace in a bitches 400m race eventually going down by 1 length in 24.69 (-40), Garryglass Pixie looked to have a 750m Maiden in the bag as she raced 5 lengths clear at the third bend but blatantly didn't stay on the tough going and the renewed challenge of Random Queen saw her prevail by just over a length in a very moderate 49.02 (-70)
On Saturday at Towcester Famias Hope ran well when fourth in a decent puppy open. Ferryforth Fran is running at the top of his game and never looked like getting beat in div 2 of the 655m winning by over 4 lengths in a very good 39.45. Calco Flyer badly stumbled out the traps and lost any chance he had of winning a good open and Black Francis missed his break when down the field in the top division of a 655m.
A busy New Years Day saw our first three winners of the year from 11 runner. Experto Crede just caught Tellhimjohn in an A6 in 28.91, Carden Punch landed a 1-2-3 for the kennel in an S2 when she just got the better of Aero Harrison and Benkaat Dolly. Swift Darien only a July 14 whelp won at the second time of asking when showing a nice turn of early pace to lead at the second bend and score by 2 1/4 lengths.
On Saturday some mixed results. Libertine Louis came from off the pace to score by 1/2 length in an A5 in 28.85 (-20), the improving Sligo Star was second in a good A4 and Deanridge Angel followed up her first win out of season with another good performance in an A3, her time of 28.48 was excellent and she looks a bitch to follow in 2016.
On Sunday we were on the mark again with veteran Fairest Royal who scrambled home in an A5 in 29.24 while Cisberry Geo just got up on the line to win an A4 in 28.62. Youngster Mass Megan was pleasing to the eye when 2nd in a warm A4.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK
WHAT'S ON NEXT WEEK
A couple of trial sessions Tues/Weds but no runners until Friday at both Towcester and Romford where the semi finals of the Coronation Cup sees us with two runners in two of the three semi's.
Opens are scheduled for Towcester on Saturday
WEBSITE RECOMMENDED BETS
Again last year we showed a tidy little profit overall for both our ante post selections and our single bets. We can count ourselves unlucky with our first bet of 2016 when Ribble Aon was unluckily knocked out of the Coronation Cup at Romford on Friday. Perhaps some value is with Patchys Kerry who traded at around the 12/1 mark at the start of the event and having safely qualified and likely to come on for the run I was very surprised to see her trading at double those odds now with some firms. Yes she has a tricky draw in trap 4 but if she can break well I could see her in the final and will be difficult to keep her out the first three.
