There's no doubt Adageo Bob will have to work hard if he is to win that elusive first big competition at Romford this Wednesday. Kevin Hutton's Jet Stream Sound looks outrageously fast and the Coral Champion Stakes looks his to lose. The outside at the Essex track has been lifeless over the last two or three weeks and it certainly won't helps Bob's cause either if it stays the same. Whatever Bob's fate his legendary status and reputation has grown in this competition no more so than on Friday as he came from last to a sensational first in the semi final on Friday. Looking in massive trouble at the first bend he sliced his way through his rivals, running on the best of the ground on the inside it must be said, and then amazingly picked up long time leader Teejays Panther to huge roars from the appreciative crowd. It was rousing stuff and drew many comments from the greyhound world. That's win number 43 from 81 starts and how dearly we would love to see win number 44 on Wednesday. Let's not also forget we have Patchys Kerry in the final and she has at last got a very good draw in trap 1. In her semi final on Friday she struggled to get a clear run behind Jet Stream Sound but picked up Domino Storm on the run in for that vital second place and write her off at your peril, she will run well.
Away from Romford it was mixed fortunes in the East Anglian Derby as it kicked off last Wednesday at Yarmouth. Calco Flyer led a kennel 1-2 as beat Evanta Evita by a couple of lengths in a good 27.79 and in a messy last heat after a torrential downpour Ilewin Allot surprised at 10/1 when winning in 28.60. Eliminations for Evanta Fantasy, Penny Seabiscuit , Ballymac Sinbad and What A Laugh and after Ilewin Allot was withdrawn today (sore shoulder) we are left with two runners in the event. This is a tough four round competition and will take some winning as you would expect with a generous £15,000 going to the winner.
As we said last week it's a busy time for the open racers and the Brighton Belle semi finals promised to be great races after the heats the week before but with three early withdrawals and for some reason two messy races we scrambled home both Aero Babooshka and Airforce Duchess into next weeks final. With both hot pots Roxholme Dream and King Danni surprisingly eliminated it looks an open contest and there's no reason why either of ours can't win the £2,500 first prize we last won with Bridge Ruth.
I was at Towcester on Saturday and once again the racing was first class with a number of close finishes. The Premier League may not have attracted the imagination of trainers away from Towcester but as always the four races that make up the league were high class. The stayers race in particular was won by Wiki Waki Woo the Golden Jacket heroine who just caught our Black Francis on the line in a terrific race. A desperate finish in the first 480m saw our joker Millroad Rodger miss out by the shortest of short heads but the best race of all was the second 480m won impressively by Deanridge Angel who flew round in 27.88 calc which kept our lead at the top of the points table. Jeff Sealy is now full time on the track and his improvements over the last few weeks seem to have made a huge difference in the races itself and it was again in immaculate condition for the dogs to run on. All in all Towcester is the place to be and we support everything they do 100% .
A rare busy Wednesday night with the East Anglian Derby kicking off at Yarmouth with Calco Flyer and Evanta Evita progressing to the second round. At Romford the heats of the Maiden Stayers and Marathon supporting the Champion Stakes final were successful as Droopys Roller at last showed her class winning well in 35.28 while Ribble Atom having her first run since the TV Trophy just got up near the line to win in 47.25.
Two qualifiers on Thursday for the Brighton Belle final whilst our other runner on the night Alice My Angel won well over a short for her 475m in 27.92.
On Friday at Romford as well as the Champion Stakes semi finals where Adageo Bob amazingly won coming from last to first in 35.70 with Jimmy Nailed on and Blonde Razor eliminated. Domino Storm didn't get the smash break she needed but whilst turning second she looked like she had booked her place in the final only to see our other runner Patchys Kerry fly home to nab that all important second spot. Saffrons Anna was unlucky when 3rd in the Bitches 400m heats while Reel Shirty back from a small injury took advantage of crowding on the inside off the last bend to swoop and win close home in 24.67.
On Friday Ilewin Affew was second and a win doesn't look far away, Cisberry Geo recorded his 5th win in 17 races when beating kennel mate Rufford Atom.
On Saturday Aero Harrison is beginning to get his act together and he came from well off the pace to land an S3 in 30.01. Ribble Rush also won well in an A4 in 28.66 while in a four dog quality S1 Sosaidhs Blue beat Ferryforth Fran by 1/2 length in an exciting race in a good 39.48, both Dehavillands Boy and Airforce Venus ran well but just lost out when close up seconds.
On Sunday an excellent win for Saffrons Champ in 28.86 after a spell in the doldrums, a good debut for Swift Slaney who was second but a better debut from Famias Hope as the Feb 14 youngster won an exciting A6 race in a fine 28.74, a pup we could here a lot more about in the future.

A stack of interest for our supporters this week. Hopefully our two East Anglian Derby tips are still going strong while on Wednesday Adageo Bob can enhance his legendary status by landing the Coral Champion Stakes.
