A tough week on the open race scene for our kennel starting with the Sussex Cup final at Hove where a missed break cost Bridge Honcho any chance of landing the Category 1 event. A burst of great middle pace where he closed up right on the leaders flattered to deceive and he eventually finished 4th to a back to his best Loughteen Blanco. On Friday at Romford we knew it would be tough for our four runners in the Coral Champion Stakes semi-finals but in the second semi-final where we had three runners all drawn next to each it turned into a nightmare. Planning, Reel Trickyone and Bridge Ruth all broke well but so did Smiler Jack and Airforce Captain on the inside and with them all arriving at the bend together something had to give. Planning was badly hampered and put out of the race but worse Bridge Ruth was brought crashing to the ground in what looked an horrendous fall, thankfully she got up to bravely complete the course and I can report that all appears to be well with her afterwards. Meanwhile Real Trickyone tried his very best to beat or split both Smiler Jack and Airforce Captain but just failed to grab that vital final spot. Bridge Bandit favourite for the 3rd semi-final broke very poorly and that was that for him. It was a bitter blow for us not to have one in Tuesday's final after starting the competition with such a strong hand but I'm sure there will be other chances for our team.
Two more Category 1 events kick off today starting this afternoon at Monmore where Benkaat Blue represents us in the Ladbrokes Gold Cup while tonight the Puppy Classic at Nottingham gets underway and both Sidaz Harris and Blonde Razor should go well. Blonde Razor is one of many high class greyhounds on our 'For Sale Page' and although this fella is not cheap to buy I expect him to be one of the leading stayers in the country when he steps up in trip later this year.
Just three runners on the Hove Sussex Cup card and with Bridge Honcho 4th in the big race Blonde Reagan ran a solid race in the 695m Stayers while Benkaat Blue was 3rd over 515m.
As said at Romford the Champion Stakes semi-finals didn't quite pan for our runners and our only other runner Benkaat Boy was 3rd over 400m.
On Saturday at Yarmouth Carkie Max just went down by a short head in the heats of the East Anglian Challenge with Ayamzaman back in 5th.
YARMOUTH AND COVENTRY REVIEW
Just four runners on Saturday and Aero Twizzle opened his account in an A2 scoring well in 28.10 (+20) recording a sensational 5.25 split while Ilewin Aggen also won for the first time in 28.76 (+20). Swift Sean nearly made it three winners but was just caught on the line in top grade.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK
WHAT'S ON NEXT WEEK
Today as said both the Ladbrokes Monmore Gold Cup and the Caffreys Puppy Classic kicks off.
Tomorrow we have a few runners supporting the Champion Stakes at Romford while on Wednesday the Carling East Anglian Challenge Final is supported by a few opens including a TV Trophy Trial Stakes for Aayamzabella.
Other plans for the rest of the week are to be pencilled in.
WEBSITE RECOMMENDED BETS
Bridge Honcho just rewarded our e.w followers when 4th in the Sussex Cup final and we can count ourselves unlucky when Bridge Ruth seemingly in a good position came crashing to the ground. Tonight the Caffreys Puppy Classic kicks off and I see no reason why our two Sidaz Harris and Blonde Razor couldn't do well.
SIDAZ HARRIS - 2 pts e.w ante-post - Caffreys Puppy Classic - Nottingham - starts tonight
BLONDE RAZOR - 1pt e.w ante-post - Caffreys Puppy Classic - Nottingham - starts tonight
ADVISED LAST WEEK
BRIDGE HONCHO - 2 pts e.w ante-post 16/1 - Coral Sussex Cup - 4TH (profit + 8 pts)
BRIDGE RUTH - 2 pts e.w ante-post 12/1 - Coral Champion Stakes - lost
