Sid Huett our head kennel hand is all signed up for Julie Collier's 'Fall For Hounds' Sky dive on 16th June and is looking for sponsors . I'm afraid I'm scared of heights and will not be signing up but will be making a massive effort over the next few months to get him well sponsored, click here for his link.

Aero Nemesis was awesome when winning his second round heat on Friday of the fascinating 2014 William Hill Derby and now trades as low as 10/1 with the sponsors for outright honours. Our flying black was again foot perfect out the traps, as he was in the opening round, and again staying on pretty well he flew around the Plough Lane track to win by 2 lengths in an excellent 28.28 (+10). Friday night's second round again produced some superb runs and its usual fair share of shocks. Take The Crown for Pat Rosney absolutely took off when scorching round in 28.15 and Seamus Cahill's Ballygibbon King was easy on the eye as he won in 28.20. Holdem Spy was more workmanlike in winning his heat in 28.71. A number of big names bit the dust including Newlawn Impact, Hather George, Ballymac Niall, Graduation Day, Southern Mesut and Mileheight Alba and without doubt this is turning into the most wide open Derby for many years, also judging on times and performances one of the classiest as well, it certainly answers any critics saying the early Derby this year would have an effect on the above.

On Saturday buoyed by the performance of Aero Nemesis the previous night we came into the second batch of second round heats with more optimism. Both El Flutter and Benkaat Nero were unluckily drawn against each other and in one of the hardest heat. A stunning break from Droopys Odell in trap 5 was not expected and neither was a great burst of pace from our Benkaat Nero and our 16/1 shot turned second and chased hard after Droopys Odell as they entered the final two bends. At this point ante post favourite Paradise Silva looked in a comfortable qualifying position but a storming finish from our El Flutter reeled in Paradise Silva to grab that last important qualifying spot. To say I was pleased with our two is an understatement! Our last runner Blonde Razor was in a heat that had some unbelievable early pace and as they scorched to the first bend Blonde Razor was in a lovely position tucked in behind the expected front runners but somehow trap 4 Bubbly Rocket dived in to the rails off the second bend badly hampering Blonde Razor and his chances of qualifying had gone, try as hard as he did he was never going to make the first three and was sadly out in 4th place. I'm sure Blonde Razor will get some better luck than he has in the past and land a decent competition or two.

Again Saturday at Wimbledon produced some stunning racing in front of a huge crowd where the atmosphere was electric. Crookers Champ, Roxholme Ted, Vanrooney, Droopys Odell and Fiery Splendour were all impressive winners and my sentiments are echoed with everyone else in the sport on condolences to Owen McKenna and his family who sadly lost his father last week. The legendary Ger McKenna would be proud of Owen's achievements and in Vanrooney, Fiery Splendour and the early paced Farloe Calvin he has an excellent chance of going all the way to the final. Some more big names were eliminated like Brick Lane, Johnny Kwango, Paradise Silva, King Dec, Scarface and Borneo as we now approach the crucial week starting next Saturday with one of my favourite nights of the year when the last 48 qualifiers all run on the same night. The gloves will be off for all trainers, it's a superb night and even though we now switch to the races being on Sky Sports it's a must see night if you can get to the track.

The draws for the next round were made after Saturday night's racing and our three remaining entries all face some tough assignments which is expected as we get down to the business end. Aero Nemesis will now have to show how good he is as he has a wide runner either side of him when he runs from trap 5. The pacey Ecclestone in trap 4 should stay reasonably straight while youngster Westmead Chris from trap 6 will give Aero Nemesis most to think about as he has very good early. The three inside runners are all dangerous Droopys Norris, Sidarian Teejay and Jaytee Seville will mop up if there are any mistakes at the boxes. Nemesis will need to be at his very best to progress to the quarter finals next Tuesday. El Flutter in heat 8 has drawn the toughest of them all which includes early pacers Crookers Champ and Pinpoint Finas on his inside and the impressive Ballygibbon King and Holdem Spy on his outside while Farloe Trent is no mug in trap 6. Flutter will be ok in trap 3 but this is as tough as it gets. Benkaat Nero as I said at the start was the best outsider priced at 500/1 or bigger in the Derby and has a real hazard with Farley Chicken drawn inside him in trap 1 in heat 7, the ex wide runner could end his fine run unless he pings the lids. There are some useful other contenders but nothing he couldn't beat if he could avoid a bump at the start, bring it on!!

In other news on the track last week we had some mixed fortunes again. Adageo Bob was a fine winner in Monday's heats of the Quicksilver at Romford but a cut foot sustained in the race wouldn't heal in time for Friday's final so we had to sensibly withdraw him. He will be fine in a week or two. Evanta Jack ran a blinder at Hove on Thursday just getting caught on the line in the heats of the Steve Joel Puppy Trophy and if showing the same superb early wouldn't be impossible to go one better in this Thursdays final. Aayamzabella returned to the track after seasonal rest in a hot 575m at Romford on Friday and she ran well when only beaten less than a length by Ernie Gaskin's old stager Head It On Tom where Reel Trickyone was an unlucky in running loser.

OPEN RACING

As said on Monday Adageo Bob won from behind in a fine 35.04 at Romford. At Yarmouth on their Greyhoundscene Forum night we had wins for Ilewin Allot in the sprint and Black Francis was impressive in the Marathon.

At Hove on Thursday Evanta Jack was best of our runners when qualifying for the puppy final while Blackstone Marco was an eye catching third over 515m.

Ilewin Frimley

On Friday I've covered the Derby above while over at Romford Ilewin Frimley was back on the scoresheet winning over 575m in 35.47.

No luck on Saturday when travelling to Crayford to get a hurdler Cornamaddy Jumbo a race when he was nearly forced off the track when 2nd and Darian Star was 3rd while we had two more qualifiers at Wimbledon in the William Hill Derby.

Bridge Bandit

At Sittingbourne last night Evanta Evita ran well in a tough heat of the bookmakers Standard qualifying for the final in 3rd place while it was good to see Murlens Crash back on the winners podium and veteran Bridge Bandit won again over 500m in a superb 29.98.

GRADED RACING

Evanta Fantasy

On Wednesday from our six runners there were good wins for Kilmagner Mike who got off the mark with a 28.41 win in an A3 while Evanta Fantasy showed serious early pace (5.29 sec) en route to a 3 3/4 length win over Hillcross Dallas in a fantastic 28.08 in an A4.

On Saturday it was great to see the debuts of Mark and Jay Currell's Blonde Snapper pups - Snappers Lad ran well in top grade when 3rd as did Toosey Snapper who was also 3rd in an A3. Airforce Grace was impressive winning an A3 by 8 legths in 28.35.
