A fantastic performance from Garryglass Rodge on Friday to land the semi-final of the Coral Golden Sprint and not forgetting Glanmire Lad who was a bold runner up to the tight railer for a great kennel 1-2. There's no doubt Garryglass Rodge loves the red jacket and made it four from four at Romford all from trap 1 when blasting to a 3.64 sectional en route to a 3 1/4 length victory. Glanmire Lad lost nothing in defeat and is starting to show us the form that won the Puppy Cup last year. The night was slightly spoiled when track champion Ayamzaman failed to overcome an awkward trap 6 and was eliminated as was Benkaat Boy who never got a run behind the competition favourite Farloe Barracuda.
The draw became crucial for next week's £8,000 to the winner Category 1 event with four railers and two middle seeds but mainly because Garryglass Rodge is such a tight railer. He drew trap 3 with Farloe Barracuda and Droopys Loner inside him and there's every chance he
could either come straight across them or push then into the fence. If this happens Dick and Ann Barfoot's Glanmire Lad could well take advantage as I don't see trap 6 for him being any problem, the only time he had trap 6 before he scorched out the boxes doing an incredible
3.53 split and winning by over 7 lengths. Of course Garryglass Rodge might even come out straight which would give him a brilliant chance of winning a first ever Category 1 for owner Dan Daley.
Overall it has been a good week again for the kennel on the trackhig hlighted by Castlebride Dan's superb victory in the Cotton King Cupworth £1,000 at Coventry on Wednesday. Castlebride Dan smashed out the traps and held off the strong Aghaburren Paddy to win in a great 29.11. He also followed up with another stunning win in the top division ofthe 485m on Sunday to make it 8 wins from 11 starts at the Brandon circuit,.
On Thursday a sensational open race debut from Mark Currell's Swift Munster at Hove taking a Maiden in runaway fashion in a great 29.82 calculated. Also at Romford on Friday Hometown Honey recorded a brilliant 35.15 when slamming her rivals in the heats of the Dual Distance Trophy.
It should be a big night Friday at Romford as we try and win the Golden Sprint that Blonde Snapper won so well last year and we are also looking forward to the Pinpoint Recruitment Arc that starts the same day at Swindon. We should have quite a strong hand with 8 or 9 entries while on Sunday both Melodys Ace and Sidaz Dippy contest the £1,000 to the winner Perambulate Stakes Final at Coventry.
I will be leaving the kennels in the capable hands of my assistant Gary with Pete, Sid and Cheryl as I take a well earned break with my family and friends in Portugal which we are very much looking forward to.
A brief look at a pretty successful week on the road. Three seconds from our three runners at Mildenhall on Tuesday but on Wednesday Castlebride Dan majestically won the Cotton King Cup Final at Coventry.
On Thursday Swift Munster was most impressive at Hove while at Romford on Friday as well as the above mentioned winners Lil Risky was just touched off in a 400m but Jazz Tilly took a warm 575m by 2 lengths in a good 35.40.
Another great card at Coventry on Sunday and as well as Melodys Ace leading home a 1-2 for the kennel when beating Sidaz Dippy 1/2 lrngth in 42.00 and Castlebride Dan's victory the was a debut win from Extreme Lad who beat a good puppy field to win in 27.23 over 450m.
Just runners on Saturday with victories for Hillcross Kansas (28.72) in his second ever start and in form Risky Blue winning an A2 in 28.50 with pup Polar Sean making a fine debut when a close up 3rd while Darian Star bolted up in an A3 in a fine 28.13.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK
WHAT'S ON NEXT WEEK
Back to Mildenhall on Tuesday but mainly our focus will be on Friday with the Coral Golden Sprint final and at Romford and the start of the Arc at Swindon while Coventry again should have a good card Sunday with the Perambulate Stakes Final the feature.
WEBSITE RECOMMENDED BETS
I hope everybody was on Swift Munster on Thursday who ran brilliantly to win at a nice 9/4 for our supporters. I'm gutted we never put Garryglass Rodge in our portfolio in the Golden Sprint and it's hard to justify backing him in the final from trap 3 now. We are though on Glanmire Lad at 12/1, he still trades around the 5/1 mark and could make those odds look silly were he to come out in his best style from trap 6.
The Pinpoint Recruitment Arc starts Friday at Swindon and it's difficult to single one out of our nine entries but hey let's have a go. Bridge Ruth is class and she will be difficult to keep out of the frame and would be my bet for the event. Ard To Beat will also go well as will veteran Jazz Apollo.
