Just a brief newsletter this week as I am currently sunning myself in Portugal and what a week I have picked as our kennel begins an exciting week of action beginning tonight with the heats of a high class Betfred Eclipse at Nottingham where our three entries feature Eye Onthe Storm who unfortunately lost his winning sequence last Monday when short headed by Charlie Lister's Farloe Lee in a brilliant race. Eye Eye Pickle was impressive in his trial stake that night looks to have taken to he track well and must come in to calculations as well.
On Tuesday our fantastic St Leger heros Kinda Easy and Droopys Zach take part in a superb Yorkshire St Leger Final at Doncaster which is live on Sky. Droopys Zach won his semi-final with Kinda Easy back in 3rd but Jimmy Wright's Crown Rover looks the one to beat and I would say there could be a lot more at stake for some of the finalists with nominations for this year's annual awards close on the horizon. It has been confirmed that this year's awards will take place at the London Hilton Metropole on January 31st and with our memorable year on the track it will be a night not to be missed!
On Friday the heats of the Essex Vase at Romford begin an event we have won four times in the past. Goldies Destiny who also won at Nottingham last Monday heads our entries that include Eye Onthe Tempo and Bumble Lee though both have to raise their games after disappointing runs at Henlow last week. Next week we will also be at Hall Green on Tuesday with Jogadusc Ace returning to the track where he was runner up in the Blue Riband earlier in the year and Coventry on Friday where hopefully they have sorted out their mechanical problems after cancelling two meetings last week.
In other meetings last week we had wins for Glenagower Champ at Hall Green on Tuesday and Risky Invader has returned to form in style when slamming his rivals by over 6 lengths at Harlow on Wednesday while a rare trip to Henlow on Thursday produced two winners in the shape of Treacle Express and Jogadusc Ace and our tally for the year (283 open wins at a strike rate of 25.5) is fast approaching the 300 barrier.
On Thursday at Coventry I attended the first of the road show meetings organised by Martin White, John Coleman and Mike Palmer which is to let people know how the new association GOBATA (Greyhound Owners Breeders And Trainers Association) is being formed and the ideas they have to try and stop the decline in our industry. With planned meetings confirmed at Harlow (17th) and Doncaster (19th) it is well worth a trip to see how up front and open their ideas are with the first magor target of getting everyone to join this new association. If we could get some 470 Professional Trainers, 700 plus non Professional Trainers, 150 Assistant Trainers, 300 Head Kennel hands and well over 3,000 kennel hands and over 10,000 registed owners all signed up then it doesn't take a lot of working out that we would have a strong say in how our sport is run! The GOBATA website will be up in a week or two and you will have to forgive me over the next few months for mentioning this exciting new Association in our website as I along with all the leading trainers are in strong support of what might be our last chance of turning the industry around.
