Monday 18th February 2008

A very busy week's action has just passed and on reflection we can be pleased with what's happened as we have a live chance in both the Golden Jacket Final with Tipp The Breeze which concludes next Saturday and a red hot Arc in which Centaur Decree is going well - the semi's are on this Thursday. A win in any would carry us to the top of the Trainers Championship and even at this early stage we can harbour thoughts of a second title. The Trainers Championship meeting involving last year's six leading kennels (Elaine Parker comes in as replacement to Nick Savva) is now confirmed for March 18th at Wimbledon, the scene of our famous victory in 2006, and we will be plotting and scheming over the next couple of weeks to pick our best possible side.

This month's guest column is from our 'Five To Follow' competition winner Peter Whates and we hope you enjoy his article as much as we did. We have already been asked hundreds of times when our next competition will be and I am pleased to announce we will be running a similar event starting in July!

OPEN RACING

The week started with the Golden Jacket heats on Monday night at Crayford and four of our five entries - Butterbridge Ali (2nd),Tipp The Breeze (3rd), Rhias Beauty (3rd) and Eye Onthe Power (3rd) all qualified for the semi's though all would need to up their game to reach the final.

One of he best night's of racing in the year is the heats of the Racing Post Arc at Walthamstow and there were some big clashes with an array of stars even without the presence of the great Barnfield On Air. It was certainly a night of mixed fortunes for our kennel with both Seanis Strike, Discreet Cat and Eye Onthe Force eliminated but Centaur Decree ran well in a hot heat to qualify and Treacle Rose was our sole winner beating Westmead Prince a neck in 29.00 (-10).

On the same night we sent runners Stan James Ladies Stakesto Wimbledon for the supporting races to the Springbok Final which was live on Sky and the night started well with Genesis Dream scoring in the 480m bitches race by 1 3/4 lengths in 29.13. Our other runners - Aero Blackjack, Stride On Babe and Snappy Girl all ran well. In trials before racing at Oxford both Seanis Lad (26.76) and Lockdale Diamond (26.83) were impressive as they warmed up for next week's Trafalgar Cup.

At Romford on Friday Lindys Belle was again a runner up in a 575m Maiden beaten 2 lengths in 36.45 (-20). Aero Blacjack has started to pick races up for fun and was impressive in beating a good field in a 575m Puppy Stayers by 4 lengths in 36.21 (-20) but Genesis Dream never got any run and was again beaten at odds on in a 575m but in another division Millwards Summit flew from the traps and led all the way winning by 1 3/4 lengths in 36.42 (-20). Genesis Alix completed a good night when returning to the winner's rostrum by taking the 750m in good style by 2 1/4 lengths in 48.12 (-30).

Crunch time in the Golden Jacket semi's on Saturday morning at Crayford and in the second heat three of our runners were pitched together and when they all broke well it looked good for the kennel but Eye Onthe Power baulked Butterbridge Ali and did each other no favours. This left the way open for Tipp The Breeze to storm into the lead and hold on from the strong finishing Rough Rose by 1 3/4 lengths in 45.96. In the third semi Rhias Beauty encountered traffic problems at the 5th bend when in a good position and eventually finished 4th. Stride On Babe was an unlucky 3rd in the Spring Trophy over 540m.

At Walthamstow on Saturday the second round of the Arc saw Treacle Rose eliminated but Centaur Decree ran another stormer when second to Blonde Jeannie beaten 2 1/4 lengths in a fast 28.65 (-10). At Monmore trial stakes for the prestigious Puppy Derby saw all three of our runners perform well - Missed A Train (2nd), Rockburst Mason (3rd) and Castlemary Podge (2nd) were all having their first look at the track and should go well when returning.

WALTHAMSTOW REVIEW

Monday's Bags meeting produced three winners for the kennel with Fools And Horses scoring his first win getting up on the line to win by the minimum margin in 29.50 (-10). Macbart made it 4 wins from 5 races when coming from behind to lead on the run in to score by 1 1/4 lengths in a good 29.28. Lews Trickster scored a facile win in an A9 by 5 1/4 lengths 1n 29.66.

On Tuesday night Shelbourne Ryan returned from a short lay off to be second in an A2 beaten 1/2 length in 29.12 (-10). Twilight Fantasy ran well enough in her marathon debut finishing 3rd beaten just over 2 lengths in 53.59 (-20) and Lockdale Duke again ran well in the A1 to finish runner up to Noirs Heart beaten 2 1/4 lengths in 28.93 (-10).

On Thursday there was a fine debut for Jonos Patience who was second to Mimicking Meecha beaten 1 1/4 lengths in 29.83 (-10). Directors Vision and Genesis Jose produced a storming finish to catch leader Lethal Freddie but it was the latter who scored by 1/2 length in 29.29 (-10). Blue Rizzler was runner up in the A3 beaten 1 1/2 lengths in 29.40 (-10).

Treacle Drum was second beaten 2 lengths in a good P4 on Saturday and Like Hot Cakes continued her top form winning a high class S1 by 2 3/4 lengths in 39.88 (-15) and Roswell Zodiac led but was outstayed when 3rd in the A3 beaten 1 3/4 lengths in 29.14 (-10). Lockdale Duke was again runner up in the A1 beaten 3 lengths by Tiger Scot in 28.95 (-10) but Lindys Girl disappointed in the S2 when only third.
