Monday 18th May 2009

The tremendous expectations and dreams for our three runners going into last Saturday's Blue Square Greyhound Derby at Wimbledon live on as Kinda Ready, Jogadusc Ace and veteran Kindred Sparky all ran their hearts out to qualify for tomorrow's quarter-finals. Indeed Kindred Sparky has been one of the revelations of the event so far and despite his 7/1 odds in the third round there was no fluke about his victory on the night; his superb all round pace not only gave him a decisive lead, he also pulled away from his rivals at the finish to win by 3 lengths in 28.97 and no-one will be writing him off in the 2nd quarter-final in which we also have perhaps our leading contender in Kinda Ready who came through a tough heat on Saturday and even though he was 3rd to the impressive Wise Thought and Windy Millar, beaten just over 3 lengths in a fast 28.66. He lost nothing in defeat and his draw in trap 2 looks ideal and we have real hope that both Ready and Sparky could make next Saturday's semi-final. Also bidding for a place in the semi's is Jogadusc Ace who again came through a tough heat won by the strong Love Mac beaten 1 3/4 lengths in a modest 29.10 to give his new owners that purchased him only a couple of months a go a real thrill going in to the quarter's. He will be a big price tomorrow but will give his all in his effort to make the semi's. The third round again produced some top class racing for the large crowd attending and with both Boherna Best and Ninja Jamie crashing out the bookies have two clear favourites in both Wise Thought and Fear Zafonic, who may not yet be firing on all cylinders but is getting the job done safely. Charlie Lister produced three third round winners as along with Fear Zafonic also Farloe Reason and Monmore Puppy Derby hero Bandicoot Tipoki scored nicely on the night. As usual with this game the ups are quite often followed by the downs and this was highlighted by the quarter final draw where all three of Charlie's winners are drawn in the same 3rd quarter final next to each other in a race that would be good enough to grace the final.

Unfortunately our week got off to the worst possible start as the injury sustained to Treacle Maggs last sunday at Coventry was worse than first thought and after a visit to the vets first thing Monday morning we sadly had to put her to sleep which, following our loss the week before of Genesis Alix, has left a sour taste in our mouths and again we feel for our owners in such times.

OPEN RACING

Our first open races of the week on Wednesday at Coventry and Harlow had mixed fortunes. Eye onthe Storm, our only runner at Coventry in a puppy race, looked to be going well when he led up but unfortunately trap 2 had other ideas than chasing the hare and fought our fella off the second bend which he was not able to recover from. Better news at Harlow where Ragga Diva scored a surprise victory in the heats of the Monkey Maiden Stayers over 592m by a short head in 38.95 (-40) with the unlucky in running Justins Princess another short head away in 3rd. Bell Tornado continued his fine run of form at the track with another all the way success by 4 1/2 lengths in 37.95 (-40).

No luck with our 5 runners at Romford on Friday with the returning Aero Blackjack closest in second place and as said above on Saturday the Derby at Wimbledon went well for our three remaining hopes. Our other open racing of the week on the same night was at Monmore where the night got off to a good start with Goldcrest king winning well by 4 1/4 lengths in 28.73. Corrig Vieri, in his first outing for over 6 weeks since winning the Spring Festival, made a pleasing return to 4 bends when just denied by a head to Swift Rooster in 28.82 and should come on for the run. Both Butterbridge Ali and Droopys Zach were second in their respective races over 630m.

HARLOW REVIEW

A quickfire double on Wednesday with a last to first victory for Russell Legit by 1 1/2 lengths in 27.36 (-20) and Mint Bulb who ran well to win by 3/4 length in 27.14 (-20). On Friday the night started well with an overdue success for Treacle Gem (26.99) and was quickly followed up by a win for Callums Man (26.56) and a hat trick of wins when Hug Major (26.67) scored well. Centaur Rosina ran well when second back over 6 bends before wins for Ruff By Name (26.50 -20) and, on her debut, Kengyelfutosweet ran well to win in (26.52 -20). To complete a great night at the track for our kennel both Risky Fabio (26.15 -20) and Centaur Sandi (38.72 -40) won the top grades of the night. Saturday it was a case of seconditus for Rockybay Class, Lord Pishy and Rank N File before a great win for veteran Treacle Rose in a fast (25.88 +30).

PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK

OPEN RACING - KINDRED SPARKY
GRADED RACING - MINT BULB

WHAT'S ON THIS WEEK

A busy week starts tonight with heats of the Grolsch Puppy Trophy at Nottingham where both Bumble Lee and Goldies Destiny run in the same heat and at Romford in the heats of the Coral TV Maiden Stayers Kinda Easy makes his debut over six bends in heat one and Notanothersecond goes in heat three.

On Tuesday the Blue Square Greyhound Derby quarter finals take centre stage with our three survivors bidding for a place in Saturday's semis. Also on the Sky card an impressive line up of veterans that include our own Centaur Decree will be a race to savour. Also on Tuesday a rare visit to Mildenhall as we have both Centaur Sandi and Ballyfinn Swift in the heats of the Pete Hunt Memorial Trophy.

On Wednesday Ragga Diva represents us in the final of the Monkey Maiden Stayers at Harlow as well as other opens while on Thursday opens will be scheduled at Monmore and on Friday at Romford.

Saturday at Wimbledon the Greyhound Derby reaches the semi final stage while the heats of the Champion Hurdle will see a return to the track for Bomber Bailey, Eye onthe Flame and Rockburst Mason.

WEBSITE RECOMMENDED BETS

The Blue Square Greyhound Derby still takes Centre Stage this week and Kinda Ready who is trading around the 33/1 mark still looks value as he lost nothing in defeat last Saturday but for me after seeing the quater-final draw I was surprised that he was only 4th in the betting for his race and I think a maximum bet is worth chancing at unbelievable odds of 100/30 with the sponsors to win on Tuesday.

KINDA READY - 5pts win - 9.05 Wimbledon - Tuesday

ADVISED LAST WEEK

JOGADUSC ACE - 2 pts win- Greyhound Derby 3rd round - Wimbledon - Saturday - lost
