Just a brief message as I'm away on a family holiday this week.
Firstly congratulations to Hometown Honey and the Cragg family on an excellent all round achievement in dead heating for first place in the William Hill Grand Prix at Sunderland last Thursday. I must say this came a bit unexpectedly as I thought she had it all to do but a tremendously gutsy effort from Honey saw her take the lead swinging for home only to be collared right on the line in the last stride by Calzaghe Lilly. The photo took ages and in the end there was no splitting the pair, this was the correct result as neither deserved to lose. This without doubt still counts as a Category 1 win and has been a massive tonic for our kennel.
In a week that saw a few ups and downs with Blonde Reagan returning to winning form last Monday at Romford only to be beaten in Friday's Final and Bridge Honcho regaining the winning thread at Hove last Thursday after a serious injury last winter, Hometown Honey's final win was undoubtedly the highlight but unfortunately we weren't able to repeat the success when both Planning and Benkaat Nero got beaten in Sunday's Henlow Gold Cup Final.
We have a big few weeks ahead and not least with the start of Hove's Coral Sussex Cup which kicks off this Thursday. Bridge Honcho leads our charge and will be joined by Benkaat Blue, Bridge Bandit and the evergreen Jazz Apollo. Bridge Ruth will sidestep the event and instead will be aimed at the Champion Stakes at Romford a week Friday.
Before this we have the John Smiths Peterborough Derby this Wednesday and Lil Risky bids to defend the title he won last year but now over a new extended trip and a tough first round draw it won't be easy. Ayamzaman, Murlens Crash and Benkaat Boy join him in the £10,000 to the winner event.
Darian Star has done well to make the Lady Godiva Final at Coventry next Sunday and will give a good account of herself for sure.
We will catch up on all the other news on Monday 5th August.
