GBGB AWARDS VIDEO

Just tidying up the last week of the year as I hope everybody is enjoying Christmas.

We have had mixed fortunes in the last few races of the year for our kennel, all Category 2 finals!

Thankfully that 5th Trainers Championship is safely in the bag and whatever our results the one main concern was that all the dogs came off safe and sound and that seems to be the case.

On Monday Aero Twizzle faced a stern test in a hot National Sprint at Nottingham and though drawn in trap 1 it's another one of those draws at a track where a railer is sometimes better when drawn in the middle and that seemed to be the case as despite trapping well Twizzle was chopped off at the bend and eventually finished 5th, a good effort nonetheless and Aero Twizzle should win plenty of opens in 2014.

Whatever Adageo Bob did in Monday's Boylesports Golden Muzzle Final over an insufficient 485 metres it wouldn't detract from an excellent last few months. Breaking moderately his chances went when he was hampered at the first bend but running on strong he eventually finished 3rd, again Bob can be expected to have a great 2014.

On Boxing Day at Henlow as much as I know what a brilliant dog Reel Trickyone is I had a feeling there might be a few banana skins to overcome in a hot Cesarewitch Final not least a draw in trap 5 a little wider than he would like but there is no stopping our super little black dog these days as he somehow got round the first bend in front. He was never going to be caught after that coming home nearly 3 lengths to the good and picking up another cheque for £2,500 to add to his £10,000 Essex Vase pot, what a few weeks for 'Butch'.

It would have been a fairytale finish to the season for us if we could have landed the last competition of the year the Henlow Xmas Cracker. With three representatives we had half the field but with Skips Special and Ilewin Allot drawn too far from the rails Murlens Crash in trap 5 looked to be well drawn. Both traps 1 Coolavanny Bert and trap 2 Blackrose Rebel came away smartly with Blackrose Rebel showing a great turn of speed to lead, Ilewin Allot and Murlens Crash paced up well and there was only a length seperating all four dogs but the inevitable happened and our two got tangled up together and that was race over. Skips Special missed the break and the trouble to sneak through to finish 3rd. Both Ilewin Allot and Murlens Crash have had a good end to the season and should be an asset to the kennel in 2014.

WHAT'S ON NEXT WEEK

After a short break for a lot of the kennel I might just keep a few of our open racers off for a while longer as it's a long season. Romford stage the first competition of 2014 on Friday as the Category 2 Coronation Cup kicks off, Reel Trickyone will head our team of four or five.

I will be studying the calendar for a plan of action for the rest of the team over the next few days.
