Monday 31st March 2008

Last Saturday's impressive showing from the Forsdike family's Aero Blackjack seems to have got the kennels back on track after the recent disappointments of the Trainers Championship meeting. In what was a high class NGRC Stewards Cup Final, Aero Blackjack's battling performance was stunning and this strong Blackjack Tom dog looks to have the capabilities of winning some top prizes in the future. We sent out four winners on the night which was pleasing in front of a large crowd at the Stow and also secured us some valuable Championship points.

After Saturday's great night we all trooped off to Harlow on Sunday for their big charity day.The Victors! Kicking off with a football match that again ended triumphantly for Walthamstow and, although Jamie Howell's magnificent hat-trick sealed the win for Walthamstow coming from 2-1 down to win 4-2 in the face of stiff opposition, most people who witnessed this great match said the victory ws due to a manificient defensive line-up led by yours truly!!
The afternoon dog meeting proved a big success for a large crowd and it was nice to have two winners in the shape of Millwards Summit and Genesis Alix and the auction afterwards raised thousands of pounds for the Great Ormond Street Hospital. After the auction once again we had another successful poker tournament that went on long into the hours, the after effects of which I am suffering from right at this moment! The tournament also raised another few hundred pounds towards the charity.

Maurice Newman and his wife deserve great credit for organising these events and it was fantastic to see stars there such as Teddy Sheringham, Barry Silkman, Ronnie Mauge and also Hollywood legend Ray Winstone who seemed to make everybody's day finding time to have photos taken and to chat.

OPEN RACING

Tuesday night saw Lockdale Diamond four fancied runners on the Oxford Sky card in races supporting the Pall Mall Final and Lockdale Diamond was impressive winning the puppy race in all the way fashion recording a decent 26.62. Genesis Dream was herself nearly four lengths inside the track record in the 595 but amazingly was beaten a neck by Bower Turbo in a flying 35.90. Seanis Lad got no sort of run when 5th in the 450 and Genesis Alix was a shade unlucky when 3rd and beaten favourite in the marathon.

On the same night at Walthamstow in the heats of the Test Like Hot Cakes was unluckily eliminated in third place behind impressive winner Barnfield Slippy. Aero Blackjack won his heat of the NGRC Stewards Cup in fine style in 39.74(-15) and in the last heat Discreet Cat was just caught by Big Brett Coal but safely qualified for the final.

On Wednesday at Sheffield over 500 metres both Directors Ruler (29.43) and Missed A Train (29.47) warmed up with good trials for next week's Silver Collar.

Saturday was the big finals night at Walthamstow and Seanis Lad kicked off proceedings in the 430 metre race with a blistering break from the traps and leading all the way to score in a fast 25.81. Castlemary Podge and Genesis Jose ran well when finishing third in their respective races while So Said he was quite possibly the most unluckiest dog on the night when runner up to Brigadoon beaten a length in 28.82. Like Hot Cakes gained some small compensation for being knocked out of the competition when winning the 640 standard at odds of 4/5 by the minimum margin in 40.31(-15). A kennel 1-2 in the novice marathon with Rhias Beauty storming to a 9 1/4 length success over Bell Tempest in 53.52(-20). Both Rockburst Mason and Commander Chief, although down the field, showed terrific pace and are future open race winners.
But a great night was completed with Aero Blackjack's brilliant NGRC Stewards Cup Final win in 39.38(-15).

On Sunday's open card at Harlow Genesis Alix gained compensation for her Oxford defeat when winning the 769 marathon from local star Transtown Mul.

WALTHAMSTOW REVIEW

On Monday's BAGs card there was an overdue success for Megusta Manners who won comfortably by 3 1/4 lengths in 29.31 and it was nice to see a victory for John Keefe's new purchase Eye Onthe Spirit when leading at the 3/4 mark and going on to score by 2 lengths in 29.38. The treble was completed by the kennel when Lews Trickster beat Centaur Gemstone by 1 1/4 lengths in 29.74.

On Tuesday Mooloolaba romped home in the S2 by 6 1/2 lengths in 40.35 while the debut runner from our Droopys Nectar litter was King Jackson who ran well to finish runner up to Watch It Thunder beaten 2 1/2 lgnths in 29.64. Centaur Lucky(2nd) and Roswell Gemini(3rd) both ran well and should be winning soon while the night was completed with a kennel 1-2 in the other S1 race when Ingenious beat the running on Bell Tempest by 1 3/4 lengths in 40.23(-15).

On Thursday's graded card Kinda Flashy ran very well again but could only manage 2nd beaten 2 lengths in 29.08. This was followed up by a win for Coolanga Flyer who ws having his second race back from injury when scoring by 2 2/3 lengths in 29.30. Genesis Sister was beaten a head in the S1 by old rival Swift Leon in 40.24. In the top heat A1 Obafemi scored a nice victory when leading at the first bend and going on to win by 1 1/2 lengths in a good 28.84 and in the last race Treacle Satin justified favouritism when fulfilling early promise scoring in a good 40.28.

In the intertrack at Harlow on Sunday Millwards Summit won her race while Bell Classic was 2nd in the 415.
