Centaur Decree - Ladbrokes Arc Winner 2008

Centaur Decree's awesome performance in the Ladbroke.com Arc final last Tuesday will go down as one of our kennel's greatest achievements and it sparked some huge celebrations amongst all the connections of 'James' to make it one of those special nights you don't forget. My own feeling was one of sheer delight as he timed his start to perfection - as myself and Patrick stood in the crowd half way up the run up watching this striking brindle pass us 1 1/2 lengths clear of the chasing pack we knew our boy was in a great position and when he cornered the first two bends like he was on wheels with a 4 length lead the race was as good as won despite the valiant efforts of the other finalists. Striding out over the winning line nearly 6 lengths ahead of Kilkenny Longjack and stopping the clock at a brilliant 28.45 this was Centaur Decree's finest moment. I would like to say thank you to the owners John, Kevin, Alun and the Centaur Partnership headed by Scott Fraser for the patience they have shown when this fine greyhound had his problems and it shows how faith in James and our kennel can be rewarded. I must mention most of all though that most of the credit for this win is down to my loyal assistant Patrick Janssens whose magic touch was instrumental in this prestigious victory and I would like to thank Patrick and all the rest of my staff for all their hard work!

Centaur Decree's Category 1 Arc win along with Aero Blackjack's fine victory in an excellent 640m puppy race on Sky has scored us valuable points that has seen us take the lead by about 15 points from Seamus Cahill in the latest positions in the Trainers Championship standings with 180 points and with Charlie Lister and John Mullins starting to get busy its great to get the year off to a fast start.

Two trainers who will no longer be on the result sheets are Gary Baggs and Peter Rich whom have this week both retired after long careers in the game and I would like to say how privileged I have been to know these two legends very well and would like to wish them well in the future. On a similar note I would like to wish Paul Rich and Stacey Baggs the best of luck (not too much though against our dogs!) as they take over from their fathers.

OPEN RACING

In the Coral TV Stayers heats on Monday at Romford we had a double, courtesy of Stride On Babe who came from last to first to beat the early paced Murlens Copper by half a length in a moderate 36.24 and Millwards Summit who led all the way to win by over 5 lengths in 36.22.

Tuesday night promised to be an exciting night of racing at Walthamstow with a galaxy of stars on show but even we couldn't envisage such a great night with Centaur Decree as said above winning the feature race on Sky the Ladbrokes.com Arc worth £13,000. Aero Blackjack is another dog in great form and he followed up his recent haul of wins with a good performance catching and passing Fine Moment by the 5th bend to win by 4 1/4 lengths in a fine 39.58. There were also good displays from Special Deal (3rd), Genesis Alix (2nd) and Like Hot Cakes (5th).

At Romford on Friday Genesis Jose ran well to be second on his debut over 6 bends in a maiden 575m to Newtown Deco beaten 2 lengths in 36.10. Seanis Lad was a good winner in the puppy 400m leading all the way to win by 1/2 length in 24.36. In the final of the Coral TV Stayers over 575m Stride On Babe was made an odds on shot but when she made a slow exit from the traps it was always going to be hard to win and despite finishing second she was well beaten by Tony Collett's Sherries Boy by 8 lengths in 35.92 with our other runner Millwards Summit back in 5th. Roswell Zodiac and Eye Onthe Power were both runners up in their respective races. Lockdale Diamond was impressive in a trial at Monmore clocking 28.60 as he warmed up for next Thursday's Puppy Derby.

WALTHAMSTOW REVIEW

No luck on Monday with just a few runners and on Thursday it was nice to see Freedom Man confirm last week's promising debut as he led at the first to score by 3/4 length in 29.76 (-10). Centaur Gemstone led to the run in before both Genotin Java and our Ingenious passed her to dead heat in 29.73 (-10). Toasting Jack making his debut for the Brekfast boys showed a fine turn of early pace (4.99 sec) and went on to win by 2 1/2 lengths in 29.47 (-10). Fools And Horses and Eye Onthe Jewel were both second.

On Saturday Eye Onthe Flame showed great promise when winning his second hurdle race on the trot - an H1 in 29.65 (+10). Bell Tornado in only his second race ran very well leading down the back straight to come home 1 1/2 lengths to the good in 29.32 (+10). Bell Tempest in the next race ran out an emphatic winner in an M2 by nearly 10 lengths in 53.77 (+20). Castlemary Podge ran well in a warm P4 to be third and So Said He was second in a good time 28.99 (+10) beaten only 3/4 length on his first race back from injury. Elusive Tuesday despite being beaten 4 lengths ran on well behind Lethal Freddie who clocked a fast 28.73 (+10. In a very good S1 Lode Star was caught right on the line by Clear Decision in 39.80 (+15) and in the M1 over 835m Rhias Beauty finished second to the more experienced Droopys Kan Kan by 2 lengths in 53.65.

There is some superb action today on the Bags at Monmore in the Spring Festival. On Thursday the prestigious Monmore Puppy Derby starts and we would like to be represented by Rockburst Mason and Lockdale Diamond. We should have plenty of runners at both Walthamstow on Thursday and Romford on Friday.
