(Opens to a third party website)
I hope everybody enjoyed reading our Website Review of 2014 (on Guest Column page), what a year!
On Thursday we started all over again as we began 2015 with a clean slate. It was straight into the action on Friday with the opening round of the Coral Coronation Cup at Romford and a graded card at Towcester.
The sport, to me, is in a better place than it has been for a long time and this year should see more prize money and more money coming in for trainers if people can work together a bit more. Towcester will lead the way forward and I'm optimistic that the future is bright.
The GBGB awards night is less than three weeks away and it's great to see three nominations from our kennel. Golden Jacket winner Hometown Honey faces some stiff opposition in the Marathon category while Cashen Maureen will surely go close in the Top Bitch list. Cornamaddy Jumbo will be the biggest certainty you will ever see in the Top Hurdler and I rate him as a 50/50 chance of being crowned Greyhound Of The Year. Whatever our fate on the 25th it will be a terrific night at the London Lancaster.
I must admit I thought we were going to start the year off with a winner in our first open racing action of the year but Kilmagner Mike just mistimed his break and finished up beaten but a close up 4th, he will win loads of races in 2015. The second race was the opening heat of the Coral Coronation Cup and Blonde Razor carried on where both he and ourselves left off in 2014 scorching to a 3 length victory in a flying 34.76. Nobody could see Adageo Bob being beaten even after a slow start, after lying 3rd until the back straight he swept round into the lead at the 5th bend and that should have been that but all of a sudden he locked up tight with cramp and in the end not only did he get beat he only clung on by a head to qualify for the semis on Wednrsday, hopefully everything will be fine by then. Vanfrenchie showed why he is also a class act on his day winning a tough heat in style and clocking a very respectable 35.00. Jimmy Nailed On just failed to qualify in his heat when 4th.
In other supporting races Aayamzaone clocked a flying 23.72 but somehow didn't win as Millwards Katy flew round in an incredible 23.52. Evanta Fantasy got her year off to a flying start when winning a 400m in a good 23.94 to make it three winners on the night and Ilewin Allot ran well when 2nd.
On Friday from our three runners Poodle Star and Crown Jewel both ran well enough when 4th. On Saturday we had 9 runners on another cold but well attended night. Both Brocatsea Bhoy and veteran Darian Star were 3rd in eight dog races and our first graded winner of 2014 fell to Vanbasten who won an A4 after showing fine early pace and just held on in 28.86. Swift Whirlwind ran better when runner up in a P4 as did Roswell De Niro who beat kennelmate Aero Gery in 29.03 in a very good race. Roswell De Niro certainly looks like a dog to follow in 2015 and both Benkaat Boomer and Rockburst Louis finished second running solid races.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK
WHAT'S ON NEXT WEEK
On Wednesday we will be hoping there are no repeats of the traffic problems that forced the withdrawal of Adageo Bob and Blonde Razor in the semis of the Essex Vase as both return to Romford for the Coronation Cup Final as well as Vanfrenchie.
On Thursday the start of regular opens on a third night of racing at Towcester should see us with plenty of runners and it's most likely we will also be back to Romford.
WEBSITE RECOMMENDED BETS
A start to a new year and hopefully another successful one for our followers. Last year's overall profit on ante post competition selections was a superb + 40 points while we did lose the same amount on our single selections so must try harder in that department.
Adageo Bob has been selected in the ante post market for the Coronation Cup and I see no reason to change that
ADAGEO BOB - 5 pts win ante post 9/4 - Coronation Cup - Romford - continues Wednesday
