Monday 7th April 2008

Last week was another good week for the kennel with the build up to some big competitions going well, wins and good runs, for Eye Onthe Veto and Force amongst others, should stand us in good stead as both the Blue Riband and the Derby fast approach. The decision not to send any runners to Scotland for their Derby was justified as the competition turned into a farce and although I wasn't there I agree with Peter Meldrum that once they got underway they should have carried on as conditions never worsened. It was good to see Mr Meldrum's ratings plus the Trainers table as we headed three lists although space must have been at a premium as there was no write up - shame as Aero Blackjack would surely have been featured. As for the Racing Post's coverage on Saturday of our multi million pound industry well they may just as well not have bothered!

This week is also our website's first anniversary and we are pleased to say the response to the site has been magnificent and we will endeavour to keep our high standards up. We are also pleased to announce that our popular Five To Follow competition will commence again in July and full details will be posted soon.

OPEN RACING

Monday didn't start that well with Freedom Man having to be withdrawn from the heats of the TV Puppy Standard at Romford and Toasting Jack not getting a run before being last in his heat. Tuesday was going a similar way when we travelled to Sheffield for the heats of the Silver Collar as Kinda Flashy and Directors Ruler both ran well without qualifying but Missed A Train overcame a difficult draw to finish third and put himself in the hat for next week's semi's. At Hall Green warming up for next week's Blue Riband Eye Onthe Force improved from the previous week's trial when cracking out the traps to lead all the way in the standard 480m coming home 3 1/4 lengths to the good in a fine calc 28.41.

On Thursday Seanis Lad, a recent acquisition for new owner Mark Gilbert, got the both of us off to great start as he blasted out the traps to comprehensively outclass his opponents going away to score by 5 lengths in 26.00 (-10). Seanis Strike (still for sale) enjoyed an ease in class as he came home a 5 1/2 length winner in 28.97(-10) in Div 3 of the 475m Standard. Lockdale Diamond found it tough when only 4th in a hot puppy 475m won by Lethal Freddie and Obafemi was a decent second behind a fast Noirs Dennis (28.75). Genesis Dream surprisingly was only second favourite behind the poorly drawn Big Brett Coal and when scorching to a 14.28 sectional the race was over as a contest; staying on well to win by 4 1/4 lengths she stopped the clock at a calculated 39.67. Treacle Rose and Genesis Alix could only finish 3rd in their respective races before So Said He confirmed the recent promise shown when battling to a head victory in 29.23 (-10) in the 475m Maiden.

Our last visit to Wimbledon ended disastrously but Saturday night's performances were pleasing starting with a fair third in a Derby Trial Stake for Commander Chief beaten 4 lengths behind Rossacredibility who flew round in 28.67. Eye Onthe Force was in a warm Trial Stake but ran well when splitting surprise winner Droopys Wells and 1/3 shot Ninja Jamie and our only Grand National entry, Eye Onthe Flame, ran a stormer in his heat when beaten a neck by his brother and former kennel mate Bubbly Magic in 28.72. In the last of the Derby Trial stakes Eye Onthe Veto reminded everyone that he is still around with a scintillating burst of early pace and looking much fitter than his last visit to the track beat Unique Option by 2 1/4 lengths in 29.02 (-10).

WALTHAMSTOW REVIEW

On Monday's Bags card Centaur Fuzzoms showed a real heart to get up and score by a neck in 29.55. Notanothersecond, Special Roxi and Jonos Patience all finished third.

On Tuesday's graded card the return of Pinehurst Silk after a serious injury was a real tonic and having her first race since last July she finished a commendable 4th with Centaur Lucky a close up second beaten a neck in 29.26. Litter brothers Bell Tornado and Roswell Gemini were 2nd and 3rd behind Sparta Master and Eye Onthe Spirit ran on strong when runner up to Cunning Devil beaten 2 1/4 lengths in 29.08. Treacle Drum saw to it that we didn't go home empty handed when just getting up in the last an S2 in 40.43.

On Saturday Kinda Flashy just failed to catch Ballymac Barton by a short head in 29.38. Centaur Iris ran better than of late when runner up in a good S2 before Blackmagic Rose returned to the winner's rostrum when she led all the way to win by a half a length in 29.19. In the S1 Genesis Sister led home a kennel 1-2-3 when finishing well to beat Eye Onthe Power by a neck in 40.43. Bell Tornado and Roswell Zodiac both ran well when third in tough races.

PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK

OPEN RACE:- EYE ONTHE VETO
GRADED:- BLACKMAGIC ROSE

WHATS ON THIS WEEK

A busy week ahead with the Semi-finals of the Silver Collar Puppy on Tuesday at Sheffield with Missed A Train in a tough heat but drawn well in trap six. At Peterborough the heats of the Assured Delivery Services Marathon over 790m feature Genesis Alix and Rhias Beauty. Walthamstow's Thursday opens should give pups a last chance to be put through their paces before next week's Ocean Trailer heats. Two important pre-Derby events get underway on Friday - at Hall Green a tough Blue Riband starts for 36 dogs and we hope to have Eye Onthe Force, Commander Chief, Rockburst Mason and Seanis Strike all entered. At Romford the £8,000 Millennium Stand Bookmakers Golden Sprint starts and Seanis Lad will fly the flag for our kennel. Also on Friday Eye Onthe Flame bids for a place in the Grand National final as he runs from trap six in the second semi. Saturday sees the finals at Sheffield and Peterborough.
