Thank you for all the emails and texts complimenting us on our excellent new look website. We take pride in all we do at Imperial Kennels and our website is key to everything we are about, thanks to Mick and Maureen for their continued hard work in putting it all together. We will continue to provide all our readers with all the up to date news and information from our kennel and our sport.
The Coral Golden Sprint kicked off at Romford on Friday and we had high hopes of victory with Evanta Fantasy who had been burning up the Essex track recently but a rare missed break cost her dearly and she crashed out of the event. Aayamzaone, Ilewin Allot and Huggies Buck were all eliminated but a stunning run from What A Laugh who smashed out the traps to lead a good field by 3 lengths at the bend and go on and score in a good 24.31 (-30) and kept our hopes alive of having at least a finalist in the event.
The Sky card at Wimbledon last week was stunning and featured both the Springbok Final and the Racing Post Juvenile which proved to be very exciting as Seamus Cahill's Ballymac Brogan just held off the gutsy Newinn Yolo. Cloudbursting running before the Sky came on air ran a good race when a close up 3rd in a warm sprint, his first race away from Towcester. Performance of the night in the supporting races was undoubtedly Vanrooney who fell out of the traps when well fancied in the Stayers over 686m. With some very talented runners in front of him he picked them off one by one and though still fourth as they rounded the last bend he flew up the home straight to land the spoils. His time of 42.32 was only modest but how exciting to see him come from last to first.
Vanrooney and Cloudbursting will now go to Sittingbourne in preparation for the Trainers Championship meeting which is now a little over two weeks away. Adageo Bob returned with a decent trial at Towcester and he will be in the side for sure but I will see how the week goes at Monmore and Sheffield as well as Towcester before I finalise our team. Talking of Monmore we look to have a strong hand in today's Ladbrokes Spring Festival Stayers as Billys Bullet, Blonde Razor and Blackstone Marco occupy the first three in the betting. It's great to see Evanta Evita back in action when she returns in the Bitches 480m heats and she has her sister Aero Babooshka to beat while there is a mouth watering clash between our in form Domino Storm who meets our former kennel star and Oaks heroine Casheen Maureen.
Towcester has been really good to us of late, our open racers have obviously enjoyed a huge purple patch but with so many new dogs on the graded strength it's been difficult to get winners. Not so this weekend as we were delighted to get 11 winners from 24 runners, we also weighed in with two open race winners yesterday including our Derby prospect Blonde Nipper who made it two from two when taking the 480m open in a good 28.18. With the improving weather the crowds are starting to pick up nicely and Sunday seems much better for everyone with an earlier start.
Vanrooney was the star of the show at Wimbledon on Tuesday and on Friday at Romford What A Laugh saved our bacon in the heats of the Coral Golden Sprint with a fine win. Both Lets Havit Right and Rosealinda were second in supporting races but most impressive was our Peter Bussey Trophy winner Jimmy Nailed On who landed a decent 575m in great style in a very fast 35.07 calc.
On Sunday at Towcester Vanmaestro took a Maiden by over 5 lengths in 28.56, Evanta El Greco was runner up over 480m but Blonde Nipper showed some lovely pace when making it two from two on British shores winning in 28.18.
On Friday both Swift Balotelli and Evanta De Leon came close when second but two good winners came in the shape of Airforce Venus who took off when winning an A3 at 7/1 in a fine 28.77 (-30) while Kid Charlemagne finally got his debut win when leading all the way in an A6 to win well in 29.25 (-30).
An excellent night on Saturday started with a win on debut for Alice My Angel in a P6 in 28.96. Ribble Aon and Airforce Karla both ran well when second and then we took the last five races on the card with Aero Gerry in an A3 in 28.58, Benkaat Boomer scored well in A2 company in 28.45 while Benkaat Nero beat in form Toosey Fern in top grade in a fine 28.25, progressive pup Parkers Poison was impressive in an A3 showing great early to win well in 28.35 and Nimrod Son opened his account in a P6 in 29.05.
On Sunday improving pups Ribble Atom ran on well to land a P4 in 28.64 and Dehavillands Boy took an eight dog B5 by over 3 lengths in 28.85. The consistent Saffrons Champ also opened his Towcester account in an A4 winning in 28.55.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK
WHAT'S ON NEXT WEEK
Today at Monmore the Ladbrokes Spring festival sees four competitions with us heavily involved in the Stayers and the Bitches 480m.
On Tuesday a trip to Sheffield as Black Francis goes for the Stones Bitter Queen Mother Memorial Cup and we have a few in the supporting races.
We could be at Sittingbourne on Thursday and on Friday What A Laugh represents us in the Coral Golden Sprint semi final at Romford after hopefully a successful day at Monmore.
The opens at Towcester move to a Saturday night and the final of the Sheffield competition will be on Sunday if we are lucky enough to get there.
WEBSITE RECOMMENDED BETS
After a successful couple of weeks it was back to earth with a bang as ante post favourite for the Coral Golden Sprint Evanta Fantasy crashed out of the event while Vanayamzaman never got accepted.
I'm not quite sure I can see a bet this week so we will keep our powder dry for next week.
