Just a brief newsletter this week which is a bit late on parade as I have just returned from a long weekend away in Scotland. The weather was superb and the golf courses just outside of Edinburgh are breathtaking as well as the City itself. A big thank you to Scott Fraser and his wife Louise for their superb hospitality and I would highly recommend a visit to that part of the world. Unfortunately my golf did not do justice to the beauty of the surroundings apart from a rare good round on Saturday! (we won't speak about my complete disaster on Sunday! as they say Freddie Couples one day and Freddie Flintstone the next!).

Droopys Zach back from a long term injury couldn't quite defend his Ladbroke Summer Stayers Classic title he won so well last year at Monmore. In last Friday's final he slightly missed the break but ran on well to finish a creditable 2nd behind Ten Dollars More. Hopefully Zach will be back to his best soon and will target the Sunderland Festival starting a week Saturday building up to another crack at the St Leger at Wimbledon later in the year. This obviously is a similar plan for a back to form Kinda Easy and I see no reason why we couldn't get these two to produce the fantastic and dramatic finish of last year.

In what was a quiet week last week it was a shade disappointing not to pick up a race or two at Monmore, and worse in the bitches race Blonde Fern finished lame and though not too serious the Category 1 winning bitch will be destined for the breeding paddocks. Mark Currell the owner of all the Blonde prefix dogs knows all too well the ups and downs of Greyhound racing and Fern's setback was one of these but on a positive note the promising puppy Blonde Fletch, who had looked a nice prospect on the Hall Green Sky card when 2nd to Little Sensation, firstly flew around Romford in a trial last Tuesday recording a smart 23.98 on normal going and then in a breathtaking performance broke Eye Onthe Flash's track record at Sittingbourne winning by over 8 lengths in a flying 28.80. Blonde Fletch and Gymcrack runner up Blonde Snapper now head to Wimbledon for the Puppy Derby beginning on July 23rd along with some of our already established pups such as Bomber Barkley (former Lil Rebel) and Lil Magic as well as hopefully some rising stars such as Blonde Ross, Blonde Robbo, Corrig Vincent, Confident Nero and a nice new acquisition from Andy Pelley Silence In Camp. Those last mentioned pups are well thought of but might take a bit longer before they are ready to compete at that level. It's important to the kennel for us to keep bringing pups through to keep us at the top of the Trainers Championship where we currently stand about 70 points clear of our nearest rival Seamus Cahill with the strong kennel of Derby winning Charlie Lister not far behind in 3rd.

Don't forget this is the last week (entries close on June 30th) to e-mail your entries for the 5 To Follow competition that begins on July 1st. It's FREE entry this year and there are some nice prizes to be won. All you have to do is pick 4 dogs and 1 bitch from the list on the Guest Column page and e-mail them to the feedback address, send by post or even text me on 07721778297 and just like the fantasy football that is so popular you can see regularly how your team is getting on.

From next week Harlow will experiment with a change for their open racing from a Wednesday night to a Sunday afternoon. We haven't had too many graders lately but our current runners are running well. Last Saturday we were unlucky not to have 5 or 6 winners with plenty of seconds but Reachfar Love made it 2 from 2 when winning in 27.02 and Legit Jack returning to form with an 8 length win in a good 37.76.

On July 24th at Harlow Stadium Joy Battley is hosting a Summer Party to celebrate her 50th birthday and to raise funds for the re-homing work of her Barley Kennels. They are hoping to get all the races sponsored and the dogs can be nominated. Race sponsorship is £200 and individual dog sponsors are at £10 each. Tickets for the event (food, wine and entertainment afterwards in the function room) are also £20. Please contact myself if you would like to do sponsorship or would simply like to come along or if you would like your dogs to be running that night.
