11th January 2016
(Opens to a third party website)
I hope everyone enjoyed reading our website Review of 2015 up on our Guest Column, it takes quite a lot of work to compile but hopefully it's well worth the effort.
2016's action is now well under way and our quest to win a record breaking 8th Trainer of the Year title has started well and this coming Wednesday we have a reasonable chance to get a jump start on our rivals with two runners in the Category 2 Coral Coronation Cup Final. Both Swift Whirlwind and Patchys Kerry have decent draws in another hot Romford final but will have to be at their best to beat the likely favourite Jet Stream Sound. He gave Swift Whirlwind a start and a beating in last Friday's semi final. Swift Whirlwind does have in his favour that fact he is very consistent out the traps and as we saw in the Champion Stakes Final last year Jet Stream Sound certainly isn't, he was favourite to win that day but lost all chance when being left in the boxes. Patchys Kerry was able to take her chance that day and won on merit, although she is just coming out of season her run on Friday was a joy to behold and she could well come on for the run again. I'm never been a fan of trap 1 from the 575m starting traps but I think Patchys Kerry can use it to her advantage and both of our two should go close with a bit of luck.
We should have a few runners on the supporting card which all carry reasonable prize money including the races not on Sky. The prolific Clondoty Alex and Friday's superb winner Ribble Aon should go really well. After Wednesday we will look ahead to the Prestige at Hall Green and we hope to have Billys Bullet ready to defend his title. He will trial over track and trip on Friday as well as Garryglass Pixie and Ferryforth Fran. We are now just over a week away from the start of the Tuesday meetings at Towcester covered live on RPGTV and we should be heavily involved in the open race competitions scheduled for the fixtures. It won't be long until both the Ladbrokes Golden Jacket at Crayford and the Trainers Championship meeting at Sittingbourne are upon us so it's an important few weeks for the kennel, a good start can set us up for the year. Talking of the Trainers Championship the GTA are planning to sponsor open races leading up to the event on 16th February which is great news.
Our first action of the week at Romford kicked off in style as Oldfield Lynda stepped up to 400m successfully in the heats of the Friday Night Maiden 500 just hanging on from the strong Kentish Rose by a short head in 24.30. In the Coronation Cup semi finals Swift Whirlwind went down just over 4 lengths in 35.08 with Aayamzamodel unlucky back in 4th, Blonde Razor broke well in the last semi but Patchys Kerry showed terrific pace up and determination to drive the bend and come out in front slightly checking Blonde Razor up who's chance had now gone. Patchys Kerry then drew clear of her rivals to win by over 6 lengths in 35.29. Ribble Aon very unlucky in the Coronation Cup heats last week made up for that with a fabulous win in a 575m blasting from the traps to win by over 5 lengths in a very good 35.29.
At Towcester on Saturday Ilewin Allot was 3rd in the sprint open and a high class 480m was turned into a messy race with Blue Moment finding trouble when 3rd and Roswell Iceman finding even more trouble when last. In form Cabra Miller held both our Black Francis and Ferryforth Fran in a tight finish over 655m.
Parkers Prince followed up last week's win to score again in a P7 by 2 1/2 lengths in 29.89 on Friday. Vandiva was 2nd in a good A3 and Parkers a Poison scored an overdue win in an S2 by over 3 lengths in 40.02. Impressive pup Rubys Rascal looks one to follow this year and he powered home to beat kennel mate Experto Crede in 28.63.
On Saturday we had a few near misses with Farkland Jackal and Ela Ela Genie both 2nd with Famias Hope impressive taking an A2 in a fine 28.37 (-10)
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK
OPEN - PATCHYS KERRY
WHAT'S ON NEXT WEEK
Wednesday we are all looking forward to the Coronation Cup Final with both Swift Whirlwind and Patchys Kerry and a few runners on the supporting card.
We will have a couple of runners at Hove on Thursday if the opens fill and back to Romford on Friday and Towcester on Saturday as well.
WEBSITE RECOMMENDED BETS
Patchys Kerry has an excellent opportunity of getting 2016 off to a flying start being recommended last week at 25/1 for the Coronation Cup and now trading at 3/1. With the entries for the supporting races not closing until tomorrow I couldn't give any selections so we will stick with watching the final.
Amazingly our profit for 2015 came out a massive 85 points with a healthy 65 point profit on all ante post selections in competitions and 22 points for the individual tips. Of course I only put these selections up for a bit of fun but it's nice year after year to show a profit.
ADVISED LAST WEEK
PATCHYS KERRY - 1.5 pts e.w ante post 25/1 - Coral Coronation Cup - Romford - final Wednesday
