ela_ela_genie_fd.JPGA mixed night for the kennel at Hove's big night on Wednesday featuring the Coral Sussex Cup Final. Early on the card our superstar bitch Domino Storm was beaten at 1/5 on in a supporting Ladies 515m, she seemed to come out the traps slightly awkward and was never travelling well afterwards eventually finishing 4th. Though not lame she was a little sore the next morning and we are working on her for her next race this Wednesday at Towcester. We bounced back as the improving Ela Ela Genie ran a cracker railing tightly to nick the Coral Golden Sprint worth £2,500 by the shortest of margins from track champion Swift Watson in 16.26. In the Coral Ladies Final Patchys Kerry found trouble at the first two bends and had no answers to the impressive Live Annie when 3rd. Billys Bullet showed how much he loves Hove despite it being the track that put his career in jeopardy last year when breaking down with a serious hock injury. Our Regency winner bolted out in a 695m open on Sky and won convincingly by 4 lengths in 41.60. In the Sussex Cup Final Calco Flyer, an over achiever all his career came out the boxes well but not as fast as he needed to and was just tapped for half a yard of raw speed as they approached the first turn and was chopped off by eventual winner Barricane Tiger, he tried hard down the back straight but there was no coming back and his brave effort eventually saw him finish 4th. Well done to my former Assistant Trainer Patrick Janssens on his first of many, I'm sure, Category 1 winners. Patrick and I are good friends and I'm pleased to see his business and his training going so well. That was Calco Flyer's 4th major final and a crack at the Betfred Steel Cup is his next big target in a few weeks' time.

The great thing with a kennel like ours is that often one big night follows another as we have plenty of decent dogs over various distances and on Wednesday we go from four bends up to the marathon distance as Lord Hesketh's Ribble Atom has a second go at the Colossus TV Trophy at Towcester. After finishing a very respectable 3rd last year to Irish star Ballymac Bonnie she now renews rivalry. The bookmakers make Ballymac Bonnie a warm 4/7 favourite despite there only being less than 1/2 length between the two on heat times, with four other rivals likely to set a furious pavc the race over 906 meters this should see both Ribble Atom and Ballymac Bonnie flying through on the last lap, which one gets to the front first will be crucial to the outcome.

It's a decent night of racing live on Sky Sports and we have a strong team in the supporting opens with competition winners like Ela Ela Genie, Calco Flyer, Domino Storm, Airforce Duchess and a few more. Ruby's Rascal will be interesting stepping up to a full 655m after a facile success over 575m on Friday at Romford and we are hoping this young star can turn into a St Leger prospect. We would of course have been even stronger in the opens but for the Ladbrokes Gold Cup and Summer Stayers which kick off on Thursday. Both are Category 1 events and we have Roswell Iceman, California, Clondoty Alex, Mass Megan and Tellhimjohn entered in the Gold Cup while the evergreen Billys Bullet and Ferryforth Fran go for the Summer Stayers.

It was an eventful week off the track for the sport as Romford handler Jim Reynolds received his marching orders from the track because of four time finding incidents, a bit harsh I would say particularly the scathing comments from Corals but I'm sure Jim will bounce back. Also our worst fears about the future of Wimbledon look set to become reality with the decision from the new mayor to hand back the plans for the site to Merton council. That will mean the end of a greyhound track in London and with Hall Green probably going the same way the GRA will only have Belle Vue and Perry Barr left and the latter is only leased to them, with Belle Vue having no sponsor as yet for the Oaks it's a sorry tale. I said many years ago that the GRA should get out of our industry as they clearly are only property speculators, in fact all they do is just drag us down and the whole sport would be better without them, just like the Chandlers at Walthamstow they have no interest in selling the tracks within the industry despite the golden years they once gave them.

On Tuesday at Towcester Famias Hope got closest of ours to Blackstone Marco when 2nd in the Standard final over 500m. Wednesday was a good but mixed night at Hove as said above.

Over at Monmore in Gold Cup trial stakes Airforce Duchess won in style in a good 28.17 but both Clondoty Alex and Ballymac Shirley were second.

At Romford on Friday there was another shock for one of our bitches as Evanta Fantasy was unlucky when getting bumped by trap 1 and in the end our own Saffrons Anna came storming through to win a heat of the Friday Night Bitches. Deanridge Madbye ran well when 3rd in the 575m Stayers final and Rubys Rascal made no mistake in 575m Maiden when hacking up in a good 35.36.

Not the best of nights Tuesday with Ribble Rush second and Saltimbanco our only winner and a good one in 29.11.

On Friday Parkers Star at last got a decent run to win an S3 in 40.81 and Droopys Achieve tracked cleverly to miss first bend trouble and power away to score in an A5 by 8 lengths in 28.68.

cappoquin_jack-fd.JPGA good night on Saturday saw Cappoquin Jack cause an upset in an A5 winning well in a very good 28.35,.Famais Hope just got up on the line to win a good A2 in 28.45. In a hot A1 Deanridge Angel was right back to form winning by 4 lengths in a very good 28.11 and Sovereign King took the last in 28.87 to complete a good night.

A busy week with the Towcester gala night on Wednesday featuring the Colossus Bets TV Trophy Final with Ribble Atom and plenty of good supporting races.

On Thursday the Ladbrokes Gold Cup and Summer Stayers heats kick off at Monmore.

On Friday we will be at Romford and Saffrons Anna bids to make every post a winning one in the Friday Night Bitches.

After sprinter Ela Ela Genie won on Wednesday at Hove we missed the double when Patchys Kerry found trouble in her Bitches final.

Ribble Atom goes for glory in the TV Trophy final on Wednesday and our ante post vouchers are  looking good.

The Ladbokes Gold Cup & Summer Stayers kick off this Thursday at Monmre and if I was to pick on one for a bet I would pick Clondoty Alex

CLONDOTY ALEX - 2 pts e.w  ante post - Ladbrokes Gold Cup - Monmore - starts Thursday

ELA ELA GENIE - 4 pts win - Hove - Wednesday - WON 3/1

PATCHYS KERRY - 4 pts win - Hove - Wednesday - lost

2 pt win double - lost
