Aayamza Royale was awesome winning her semi final of the RPGTV St Leger last Thursday and tomorrow night at Perry Barr she bids to give our kennel a record breaking 6th victory in the stayers classic. In her semi final she was made a 2/5 favourite to land the odds and at one stage of the race she looked in trouble as she was held up 3 or 4 times but once she got a bit of daylight she took off to beat Salacres Pippy by 2 1/2 lengths in a fine calculated 43.14, the other semi finals were won in quicker times with the powerful Roxholme Kristof scoring in a flying 42.50 and Smallmead winning in 42.92. Roxholme Kristof seems the dog of the moment and comparisons are being made with the legendary Ballyregan Bob which is high praise indeed. It’s a cracking final and if Aayamza Royale is to win then she will have to do it the Scurlogue Champ way from a long way back, she is in great form and though her main objective has always been the TV Trophy next month at Hove we have an added bonus of making a St Leger final, indeed maybe even a winning chance, fingers crossed.
sober_express_fd.JPGOur hopes of a Kent Derby finalist disappeared on Sunday at Central Park as Antigua Boy (unlucky) and Antigua Romeo crashed out the event at the semi final stage. We had much better luck on Friday at Romford with the first round heats of the Essex Vase. Sober Express showed that his previous week's fine win was no fluke as he smashed out (13.39 sec) to score by over 5 lengths in flying 34.71, the fastest of the round. We had five entries in total and all qualified safely for this Friday's semi finals, Alien Sea, Tiffield Maximus, Towstar Zelda and Ivy Hill Skyhigh joined Sober Express in the hat.
From good news to bad. It wasn’t nice to see four of our hopes for the Oaks drawn in the same heat on Sunday at Swindon in the last race of the night. Sadly it won’t be a repeated Romford performance of last Friday getting all of our entries through as the unlucky draw means that this is impossible to achieve this with one of ours certain to be eliminated. Aayamza Lexie heads our team and she followed up with a brave win last Sunday in a fine 28.35. Drawn in trap 3 it’s going to be a close your eyes job at the first bend as our two early paced litter sisters Black Eyed Molly and Tiffield Beauty are drawn on her inside. Black Eyed Molly made a pleasing debut when beaten just 1 1/2 lengths by the useful Popworld in a good 28.36 with Towstar Luna also going well on her debut a further couple of lengths behind in 3rd. Jaxx Purple is our fourth entry in the last heat and is well capable of qualifying. Agincourt Xena and Jesses Sister complete our team.
Thursday at Perry Barr saw Aayamza Royale March into the RPGTV St Leger final and on Friday at Romford all five of our Essex Vase entries qualified for the semi finals with Sober Express winning in a scintillating 34.71.
Not the best of nights at both Central Park and Swindon with Aayamza Lexi our only winner in a good 28.35.
On Monday at Nottingham Saffrons Xpress ran well when 4th in the BGBF Midland Sprint Final while we were out of luck in the supporting races.
On Tuesday morning Towstar Winston won well in an A5 in 28.17 and Bobs Boy took an A9 in 28.64 but no winners for us in the evening.
Just the one winner on Thursday as Ripley Guru took an A8 in a good 28.23, and the same on Saturday with Furious Falcon winning well in an S2 in 33.91.
Just the four runners at Towcester on Sunday with a very nice performance from Anhid News who won well in an A4 in a nice 29.96.

A big night at Perry Barr tomorrow as Aayamza Royale faces some fantastic opposition in the RPGTV St Leger final. Antigua Fire continues his comeback in a very decent supporting marathon with Antigua Jet going in a 480m.
The semi finals of the Essex Vase on Friday night at Romford should be not only nerve wracking but exciting and we have five chances of getting one through to the following week's final. We have plenty of runners in supporting races.
We have a trip to Hove on Saturday as we prepare for the forthcoming Olympic while on Sunday the first round of the Property 192 Oaks starts at Swindon although I’ve lost a huge amount of enthusiasm as we somehow managed to get four of our seven runners in one of the 12 heats. Quite remarkable and you could do thousands of draws and this wouldn’t happen, two together or maybe if you were very unlucky three but four makes you wonder how many 100’s of black cats would pass you to have luck like that! Anyway on a positive note well done to sponsor Colin Davey who has generously put his hand in his wallet to support everyone from owners, trainer to now kennelhands with his extra donation of £1,000 to each kennelhand of the finalists.
Aayamza Royale might be a reasonable price to win the St Leger final but she will be very short odds to get in the top 4 which would at least secure the each way part of our bet. Our selection for the Essex Vase Sober Express is now trading considerably shorter than before the first round got underway after a great start to his campaign.
I’m not sure I should recommend anything for the Oaks as already our luck seems to be out before the first round even starts at Swindon on Sunday. Aayamza Lexie is definitely a bitch that can at least make the final as she can win from both ends, a tentative selection at best. I was going to put a potential lively outsider up in Black Eyed Molly who made a pleasing debut last week but finds herself in that horrible first heat, still we must have a small interest.
