Adageo Bob was back to his awesome best last Wednesday at Romford in the Mitch Millward Essex Vase. Faced with a difficult semi final our star veteran produced a performance that was right out the top draw. With loads of early pace inside him a good break was essential, this he did thankfully and showing his old zip to the bend he turned once again in the lead. There's no better sight in our sport than the hugely popular Adageo Bob bowling along in front over 575m but he did have to dig deep as the in form and wonderfully consistent Bubbly Gold got within a couple of lengths of him but Bob was not for catching and in his penultimate race of his career he won by in a superb 34.78 just 11 spots of his track record he holds jointly with Airport Captain.
It has been well documented that tomorrow night will be Adageo Bob's last race of his brilliant career and what better place to stage it than a Category 1 final at Romford over 575m where he has a stunning record. I'm so pleased that he has made the final and yes it would be a fairytale come true if he was to win but the most important thing to me was that he made the final itself as it justified keeping our July 11 whelp in training and as long as he comes off safe and sound we will all be happy. Let's not forget as well the brilliant gesture from Corals and Romford to name the race after our much loved friend Mitch Millward which means that it's not an Adageo Bob show and respect for Mitch will be shown at all times. Can he win? again, yes he can but he will have to produce his very best to beat the likes of Fivestar Clipper who is now on an Adageo Bob like streak having won eight on the bounce. It will be a massive ask for Bob to beat this fella let alone four other highly talented rivals.
Next week I will do a full review on Adageo Bob's wonderful career, dogs like him don't come around too often. His semi final win was one of some very good highlights in an excellent week for our kennel. The other most notable highlight was seeing our three top class bitches Aero Babooshka, Evanta Evita and Domino Storm all qualify when pitched in the same heat of an Oaks semi final at Belle Vue on Friday with the underrated Aero Babooshka coming out on top. We can only hope that we have some better luck in the draw which is being made today. It was also good to see Blue Moment land his heat of the Laurels in good style, he has been plagued by injuries all year and still has plenty to offer.
It's a great week's racing ahead starting tomorrow night at Romford with Adageo Bob's farewell race and we have interest in a good supporting card. The EEC Tmber Oaks and Laurels continue on Friday while also on Friday we have not only the start of the British Bred Derby at Towcester but on the same card the final leg of the Bags Championship where Towcester should bask in the glory of winning their group. Plans are already being made for the finals on December 23rd most likely to be staged at Sheffield and we might well have up to five runners representing Towcester.
Another great bit of news was Billys Bullet's comeback trial over six bends at Towcester on Friday night. He glided around effortlessly in a superb 39.72 (-30) and what a story it would be to see him return to the winner's podium when he runs most likely at Towcester on Saturday. A fit again Billys Bullet would be the icing on the cake for another great year for Imperial Kennels and he will lead our charge for big race honours in 2016.
Not the best of luck at Nottingham on Tuesday on the Sky card. Roswell Iceman was well beaten when finding plenty of trouble in a warm puppy race, Airfoce Duchess was very unlucky when hampered at the last two bends when looking all over the winner in a bitches race eventually finishing 2nd, Jimmy Nailed On was 5th in a messy race over 680m whilst later on in the night Ballymac Shirley made it four wins on the spin winning a 480m Maiden in 29.04.
As said Adageo Bob took his semi final of the Mitch Millward Essex Vase in great style on Wednesday though Swift Whirlwind went out after finishing 4th in his semi when not able to dominate. At Belle Vue on Friday Aero Babooshka led a kennel 1-2-3 in the 2nd round of the EEC Timber Oaks to keep her unbeaten record in the event going while Blue Moment won his heat of the Laurels in good fashion in 28.67 on a slow track.
A couple of opens at Towcester on Saturday with Black Francis coming closest of ours when 2nd over 655m as was Fivestar Calvin over 480m.
A decent crowd both nights which were wet and windy saw some good action. On Friday Droopys Achieve ran riot in a P6 like she has been threatening to do winning by over 4 lengths in 29.49. Another one who has been close to winning a few times Vandiva also took her chance well landing an A5 in a very good 28.47. A rare win at Towcester also for Reel Shirty in an A3 by 1/12 lengths in 28.56 and Rufford Atom was just touched off in a good S2 beaten 3/4 length in 39.99
On Saturday on a good card we had a nice 1-2 in the top grade sprint with Airforce Karla just touching off Oldfield Lynda in 15.49. Ferryforth Fran ran well when coming from well off the pace to win a warm S1 in 39.80 and both Carden Punch and Toosey Fern ran well when 2nd in other races. On Sunday the prolific Nimrod Son was our only winner in a sprint in 15.69.
PERFORMANCE OF THE WEEK
WHAT'S ON NEXT WEEK
A big and emotional night is expected at Romford tomorrow as Adageo Bob looks to end his stunning career on a high by landing the Mitch Millward Essex Vase at Romford and we have plenty of interest on the supporting card.
We will be at Hove on Thursday and on Friday all eyes will be on Belle Vue where the EEC Timber Oaks and Laurels semi finals should be interesting while at Towcester the British Bred Derby kicks off and the Bags Championship final leg should see Towcester get through to the Grand Finals. There are also opens scheduled on Saturday where Billys Bullet is set to make his return.
